On Political Alignments Naniniwala ako na ang pinakamalaking laban natin ay ang laban sa gutom, korupsyon, at kahirapan. This is a fight I’ve faced since I was a student leader in the 80’s. Dino de Leon, on Thursday, May 15, slammed former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque for weighing in on the former senator's legal battles while evading arrest for alleged human trafficking. Presiding Judge Rene Reyes, in an order dated May 8, said there is probable cause to charge the accused for violations under the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2022. All the offenses charged are non-bailable. According to the Department of Justice, Roque is facing charges of qualified and regular human trafficking for his alleged role not just as legal counsel for Whirlwind Corp.—the company that leased the Porac compound—but also in the operations of Lucky South 99 itself. Chinese nationals rescued from the facility claimed they were kidnapped, held against their will, and forced to work under harsh conditions. Roque left the Philippines in September after being cited for contempt by the House of Representatives for refusing to appear at hearings on illegal POGO operations. He is now seeking political asylum in the Netherlands, claiming persecution for his ties to the Duterte family. In response to the arrest order, Roque said: "This is not flight as evidence of guilt but the exercise of a human right to asylum." He vowed to exhaust all legal remedies, branding the case against him as "unjust prosecution."
