Niger State approached the Supreme Court, asking it to decide whether hosting hydroelectric dams and contributing substantially to national electricity generation qualifies the state as a "resource-producing" state under Section 162(2) of the Constitution.
Today, the governor has gone a step further, asking the Federal Government to include Niger State in the 13% derivation formula as a resource-producing state.
Bago may have been misled.
Electricity generation does not fall under revenue derived from natural resources.
