After six years of incarceration, Sharjeel Imam walks out of Tihar Jail on a 10-day interim bail, granted by a Delhi court to allow him to attend his brother’s wedding. Arrested in January 2020 in connection with the alleged larger conspiracy case linked to the northeast Delhi anti-Muslim violence, Imam steps into the open for the first time in years, his brief release marking a rare pause in a prolonged legal battle under stringent anti-terror charges. A major gas facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar, suffered heavy damage after an Iranian missile strike during escalating tensions in the Persian Gulf. The complex hosts the world’s largest LNG export plant, which previously supplied about one-fifth of global liquefied natural gas. Following the attack, energy facilities in the region shut down, and gas prices in Europe surged by more than 30%. Global markets reacted sharply, with oil prices rising and the Dow Jones Industrial Average recording its lowest close of 2026 so far.

The players had refused asylum in Australia and returned to Iran via Malaysia and Oman, entering the country from Turkey. Officials, including parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, praised the team for their decision, calling them “children of the homeland.” Images showed a small "isteqbal" ceremony at the border, where authorities and supporters appreciated the team’s courage and commitment.
