When the Moon aligns perfectly with the Sun, it leaves behind a delicate, razor-thin ring of sunlight around its edge. This phenomenon is known as an annular solar eclipse, often called the “ring of fire.” Because the Moon is slightly farther from Earth than usual, it appears smaller in the sky and isn’t able to fully cover the Sun—resulting in a glowing circle of light instead of complete darkness.
