Colorado Springs is getting a clear wake up call. Right now, we are dealing with a major wildfire just south of our city. The 24 Fire has burned more than 7000 acres, forced evacuations, and shut down Highway 115 for days. Officials say it likely started from a vehicle malfunction. That matters because in these conditions, small problems turn into big disasters fast. At the same time, we are seeing serious public safety issues across our community. A deadly street racing crash killed an innocent bystander. And in El Paso County, a 4 year old was found unresponsive and revived with Narcan, and a parent was arrested, according to law enforcement and local reporting. These are not isolated problems. They point to a bigger issue. We need a city that takes safety seriously at every level. And while all of this is happening, residents are still dealing with reduced city services and uncertainty from City Hall. We need leadership that is proactive, accountable, and focused on results, not excuses. That means preparing for real threats like wildfire. That means taking reckless driving and violent crime seriously. That means treating fentanyl and overdoses like the emergency they are. That is why I am running for mayor. National security does not just happen in Washington. It starts in cities like Colorado Springs. Local infrastructure. Local systems. Local coordination. All of it supports the larger national mission. When local systems are strong, the national system is stronger. When local systems are weak, it creates gaps. That is the reality of a city connected to defense and space operations. Common sense leadership means understanding that local decisions have national impact and leading with that responsibility in mind. Cyber hygiene and digital discipline for government systems Cyber security is not just an IT issue. It is a leadership issue. Most system breaches do not start with some advanced attack. They start with simple mistakes. Weak passwords. Phishing emails. Poor system discipline. In a city like Colorado Springs, that matters. We are connected to defense, aerospace, and critical infrastructure. That makes local systems a target for people looking for access points. Strong cities take cyber hygiene seriously. Common sense leadership means enforcing standards, training employees, and protecting the systems our city depends on. Colorado Springs can keep its quality of life only if we do the basics right. We protect families, we plan ahead, and we run City Hall in the open. I like seeing our city ranked easy to navigate. That means our layout and infrastructure choices are working. Now we keep improving the fundamentals while we get serious about wildfire readiness and public safety. And when a council seat opens because voters demanded accountability, we treat that as a warning light and a reset. Common sense leadership means results you can feel. That is also why I am backing Jake Savala. Jake Savala was part of the early push to help launch TIG for Mayor. When the District 2 seat opened up, he did not sit back and wait for someone else to do it. He looked at the moment and said why not me. That is the kind of move I respect. Service first. Accountability. Not just talking about what the city should do. Raising your hand and taking responsibility. So Jake Savala is stepping off my campaign team so he can run for District 2 and give that seat his full focus. That is the right call. District 2 deserves someone who is all in on District 2. And my mayor campaign needs a team that is all in on winning citywide. I am going to help Jake Savala because Colorado Springs needs more people who are willing to lead instead of watch. Colorado Springs is not just growing. It is becoming more important. That comes with responsibility. We are connected to national defense, space operations, advanced technology, and critical infrastructure. That means we have to think ahead, not react after something goes wrong. Awareness. Preparedness. Resilience. That is how strong cities operate. There is no reason for panic. But there is every reason to stay informed, stay ready, and take these realities seriously. Common sense leadership means understanding the environment we live in and making sure Colorado Springs stays strong, secure, and prepared for what comes next. Colorado Springs parents are warning other families after a local college student was allegedly jumped downtown in an unprovoked attack around 1:00 a.m. on March 14 near the Chase Bank on Tejon Street. His parents say he was left unconscious on the sidewalk and later needed a 7.5 hour facial reconstruction surgery with multiple plates. They say his wallet and phone were still with him, so they do not believe it was a robbery. CSPD says a detective has been assigned and they are asking for tips near Tejon and East Boulder. Source. Secondary. FOX21. March 2026. fox21news.com/news/parents-w… This is exactly why downtown safety cannot be slogans or press releases. The city put $700000 into downtown Clean and Safe for extra security presence, ambassadors, and outreach. If we are spending that money, the public deserves to see clear coverage, clear hotspots, and clear results. Source. Official. City of Colorado Springs. February 4, 2026. coloradosprings.gov/news/city-down… If you saw anything that night, say something. If you have teens or college age kids downtown, talk to them today. No one should be getting jumped in our city center and left on the sidewalk. Colorado Springs is seeing the results of decisions that haven’t delivered for the people. We have budget cuts that are now showing up in our neighborhoods. Closed restrooms. Reduced maintenance. Declining basic services. And we continue to see steady crime across our city, from armed robberies to violent incidents in places families should feel safe. At the same time, we know what Colorado Springs can be. We’re gaining national attention for our local businesses, and we continue to be a place people want to live and work. The difference is leadership. As mayor, I will focus on results. Real accountability in public safety. Restoring core city services. Making sure growth works for the people who already live here, not against them. Colorado Springs deserves leadership that is clear, consistent, and focused on getting the job done. Awareness is not about fear. It is about understanding the environment we live in. Colorado Springs is a city connected to national defense, advanced technology, and critical infrastructure. That brings opportunity, but it also means we have to stay aware of how the world around us is changing. The risks today are not always direct. They can build slowly over time through pressure on systems, access to information, or weaknesses that go unnoticed. Strong cities stay aware and adjust before problems grow. Common sense leadership means paying attention, staying informed, and making sure Colorado Springs remains strong and resilient in a changing world. Colorado Springs deserves the truth about what is coming out of Denver. SB26 015 dealt with commercial sexual activity with a child offenses. Prime sponsors of SB26 015: Byron Pelton, SD1, eastern and northeastern Colorado counties Dylan Roberts, SD8, mountain and northwest Colorado counties Monica Duran, HD23, Jefferson County Jarvis Caldwell, HD20, El Paso County When it came up in Senate Judiciary on February 11, 2026, the vote was 6 yes and 1 no. The only no vote was Senator Nick Hinrichsen. Nick Hinrichsen represents Senate District 3, which covers Pueblo. This is exactly why I believe a mayor should keep people informed about what is coming from Denver, who is sponsoring it, and who is voting against it. The people of Colorado Springs deserve plain English and the truth. Clear communication matters, especially when things are uncertain. In any situation that affects public safety, people need accurate information they can trust. Not rumors. Not confusion. Not delayed updates. Strong cities focus on getting clear, timely information to the public so people can make informed decisions and stay calm. That kind of communication builds trust across the community. Common sense leadership means being direct, being honest, and making sure the public stays informed with real information when it matters most. Preparedness is not about fear. It is about being ready. In a city like Colorado Springs, coordination matters. Local government, first responders, military partners, and federal agencies all play a role when something goes wrong. Strong cities do not wait until a crisis to figure things out. They plan ahead. They train. They communicate clearly. They make sure everyone knows their role. That kind of coordination builds confidence, not panic. Common sense leadership means making sure Colorado Springs is prepared, connected, and ready to respond when it matters most. In a city like Colorado Springs, not every threat is physical. Some of it is about information. False stories. Manipulated media. Deepfakes. Coordinated narratives pushed online to create confusion when tensions are already high. The goal is not always to convince people of one story. Sometimes the goal is just to create doubt, division, and chaos. That is why steady leadership matters. Common sense leadership means verifying facts, communicating clearly, and keeping people grounded in truth instead of panic. Colorado Springs deserves leadership that stays calm, tells the truth, and keeps the public informed. Colorado Springs has good news and hard news in the same week. Good news. Mountain Metro is expanding spring service starting March 29, including more frequent service on key routes and changes meant to improve reliability. Official city details are here. Hard news. CSPD says a 15 year old girl who was shot around 3:00 a.m. March 3 in the Astrozon Plaza parking lot died March 7. That is heartbreaking. It is also a warning light that youth violence is real in our city and it is not staying in 1 zip code. And we have another area where common sense can save lives. The city is now publishing data on the most dangerous roads and what fixes can reduce serious crashes. That is the kind of work that should turn into action, not another binder on a shelf. Here is what I believe. We should be able to move around this city safely, whether you are on a bus, in a car, or walking your kid across the street. We should be able to grow without accepting violence as normal. And when government publishes a plan, the public should see the results. Strong cities pay attention to resilience. Colorado Springs relies on infrastructure that supports both everyday life and national missions. Power systems. Communications networks. Transportation routes. Water and utilities that serve homes, businesses, and military installations. When infrastructure is strong and reliable, the entire community benefits. When it is weak or neglected, the risks grow. Across the country, cities are taking a closer look at how infrastructure resilience supports public safety, economic stability, and national security. Common sense leadership means maintaining the systems our community depends on and making sure Colorado Springs stays prepared for the challenges of the future. The Department of Defense has solemnly announced the heartbreaking loss of six valiant United States Air Force airmen in a devastating midair collision over western Iraq last Thursday, as they selflessly supported Operation Epic Fury. These extraordinary individuals, tanker crew members who soared into danger to fuel our nation’s missions, embodied the profound dedication and quiet heroism that define our military guardians extending the arm of freedom and protecting us all from above. Hailing from the 6th Air Refueling Wing at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida: •Major John A. Klinner, 33, of Auburn, Alabama a leader whose spirit lifted those around him. •Captain Ariana G. Savino, 31, of Covington, Washington a beacon of resilience and grace under pressure. •Technical Sergeant Ashley B. Pruitt, 34, of Bardstown, Kentucky a steadfast professional whose expertise kept missions aloft. From the 121st Air Refueling Wing at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Ohio: •Captain Seth R. Koval, 38, of Mooresville, Indiana a mentor and friend whose wisdom guided many. •Captain Curtis J. Angst, 30, of Wilmington, Ohio a passionate aviator with an unyielding sense of duty. •Technical Sergeant Tyler H. Simmons, 28, of Columbus, Ohio a young talent whose enthusiasm inspired his team. Today, we pause in deep gratitude and sorrow to remember these fallen patriots, who gave their all in the line of duty without hesitation. Their sacrifices remind us of the true cost of liberty, urging us to live with purpose and honor their memory every day. Our hearts go out to their loved ones, comrades, and communities may strength surround them, and may these heroes rest in everlasting peace. #ColoradoSprings #USAirForce #FallenHeroes #OperationEpicFury

Colorado Springs is home to military bases, space operations, defense contractors, and advanced technology companies that support national security. That means a lot of important work happens here. It also means the systems and supply chains connected to that work matter. Across the country, cities connected to defense industries are paying closer attention to how those supply chains operate. From technology to infrastructure to specialized manufacturing, many systems depend on reliable and secure networks of partners. Strong communities pay attention to those connections and work to make sure they remain stable and resilient. Common sense leadership means understanding the role our city plays and making sure Colorado Springs stays strong, informed, and prepared. Most people think threats show up loud and obvious. In reality, the modern risks to cities like ours are often quiet. Cyber probing. Phishing emails. Attempts to gather access to systems or credentials. Efforts to collect information over time. Cities connected to national defense, aerospace, and technology industries attract attention from people trying to learn how those systems work. That does not mean panic. It means awareness. Common sense leadership means strengthening cyber discipline, protecting city systems, and making sure our community stays resilient in a digital world.
