1 in 3 S&P 500 Co has a net-zero strategy. If our goal is to transition to net zero as effectively as possible, we need to move away from providing inconsistent climate data. Regardless of your views of climate change, climate disclosures support investment decision-making.

But wait...If the U.S. is increasing electrification across all sectors - causing further dependency on the grid. Why are we still running critical T&D assets into failure?

A DOE study found that electrification across all sectors of the economy would boost the national consumption nearly 40% by 2050. Regardless of electricity demand, EVs are expected to consume nearly 6% of the state's electricity by 2030.

Last year more than 608K EVs were purchased. The average electric car requires 30 kWh per 100 miles. Equivalent to the amount of electricity the average American home uses each day to run appliances, heating, etc.

Thanks for coming to my #TimTalk. lol. But seriously; I believe the transparency conversation should be an open forum. I am open to creating a dialogue outside of conferences, panels & luncheons. I want to hear from linemen, engineers & those who have no interest in utilities.

Transparency allows for an individual asset to communicate its past & present conditions to those who need it most. Climate change is the #1 risk to the utility industry. Utilizing technology to learn about each asset mitigates risk. It reduces the likeihood of asset failure.

Everyone has advocated for different solutions to tackle this problem. But based on what information? We need information on what environmental & mechanical issues lead to asset failure. Which requires the utility industry to be open to transparency.

The T&D statistics are not a secret. More than 70% of the energy infrastructure is 25 years old. Utilities are known to run assets to failure. And sources have indicate that the U.S. needs to expand the transmission system by 60% by 2030

While policymakers deliberate about the source of electricity and climate change... I have a question, "How do we intend to move the energy over long distances?" The United States has struggled with developing major transmission lines connecting regions.

When I say transparency - I am referring to ground truth measurements of individual assets. That is learning about weather patterns, topography, and the consistency of maintenance. Ask yourself - If a utility pole falls and no one is around - does it still make a sound?
