@TravisEscobar I think that sounds right. I never covered David, but with Angel, I'd say there was a bit of an Obama change agent pitch about him. First Latino mayor, etc. Up against old guard candidates. But I don't think Angel would consider himself progressive by today's standards.

I wish there was more polling for the city. I think core of PVD is to be this weird, artsy, inclusive, hip city within all income classes, right? Maybe that's why the city has leaned more left. Less on issue but more on brand? More on a feeling. I was in college for Angel's race and high school for David, so can't say accurately what their issues were or the temperature of the city at the time, but those were historic firsts and appeared more "left"?

@TravisEscobar Great question on 3. I think I'd argue that the majority of the voters don't process these campaigns the way you and I do. I'm not sure how many care about moderate vs. progressive even though it feels so important online.
