I’ll say it again — Paris wasn’t “always this way.”
It wasn’t even this way in late 2019 when I was there last.
This is new.
This was a choice.
This is leadership.

Thank you @LouHaigh for making this vital point. Five people are killed on our roads every single day, on average. We would not tolerate this level of harm in any other aspect of our lives
Adam Tranter@adamtranter
Very important line here from @LouHaigh on road safety: "We treat road safety in a way as if it is somehow a natural accident. If the number of people being killed or seriously injured on our roads, were being killed in any other way, we'd be treating it as a pandemic."

This is what a Russian Shahed drone with a thermobaric warhead looks like. Russia has started launching such drones en masse at Ukraine.
Russians use thermobaric ammunition specifically against civilians; it spreads burning liquid in corners and corridors of buildings where civilians typically take shelter, burning out the oxygen. The blast wave spreads over the entire area and affects the lungs, ears, etc. of people nearby.
It is also noted that Shahed with a thermobaric warhead demonstrates maximum effectiveness in enclosed spaces, as the cloud of napalm-like fuel can cover several rooms.

@MarkW_E @linea_at_ftc @angus_young61 @IAmKuriousBrown @Hullccnews That would be @cllrmikeross. A lot of the Bev Rd cycle infrastructure really isn't.

In a rare outing for our opinion site, I’ve written about why councils seeking to ban bikes from city centres due to delivery bikes are treating it as a “cycling problem” when it’s actually a law enforcement problem - these are mainly electric mopeds.

@linea_at_ftc @angus_young61 @IAmKuriousBrown @Hullccnews Agreed. It needs to be seen as part of a city-wide network, and obviously needs linking to the city centre.
This is part of the original design ideas, obviously not consulted on.

This junction has been transformed 🪄by widening the pavement and planting a tree🌳 It never needed to be so wide📏 but now offers a safer place to cross and a shady-haven just outside a local school🧑🎓
#Streettrees🌳are an integral element in healthier more human focused streets

@angus_young61 @IAmKuriousBrown @linea_at_ftc @Hullccnews A mini-Holland plan was drawn up and submitted for funding, then the funding was pulled by the Government.
English

@cllrmikeross They're indicating they are going to spend on infrastructure, and the hints are that cycling infra could get some decent money. Hull doesn't have any plans for cycling infra to spend it on.

Chancellor's budget is a big test for this govt. I've put in writing my call for them to protect the vital services residents rely on. Also, if govt is going to achieve the growth in the economy they want, they will need councils able to help with that.

The Dutch don't cycle because their country is flatter, milder, or morally superior to the rest of the world.
It's because they invest €30 per person each year building a network of 40,000 km. of separated lanes and 60,000 km. of traffic-calmed streets.

@IAmKuriousBrown @angus_young61 @linea_at_ftc @Hullccnews Yes, whilst they mention the schemes were fully consulted on they omit that the consultation ended up with their desired result of getting rid of all day bus lanes, because of their loaded questions.
English

@angus_young61 @linea_at_ftc @Hullccnews They still managed to claim that the scheme was delivered in their last Local Authority Active Travel Capability Self-assessment though (in which they also neglected to mention the bus lane debacle).
