@wesyang I sometimes wonder if the progressive strategy is to embrace absurdity so completely that it makes arguments of reductio ad absurdum ineffective. If you can condition people to nod along with “her penis,” you can make them compliant to anything.

"Her penis" went from being Ricky Gervais punchline to compulsory across all newsroom style guides in just a few years. There is no reductio ad absurdum that isn't endorsed as doxa within a few years.

postmoderns see this dilemma and laughably respond “well, this ‘strategic essentialism’ is borne of political necessity,” to get what they want. essentialist gender identity is a strategic claim rather than an ontological one. this needs to be argued in a courtroom b/c you cannot justify permanent medical intervention on children based on a strategic fiction. The medical and legal frameworks require the ontological claim — that the gender identity is real, stable, and authoritative — not merely strategically useful. [this is why the whole house of cards is coming down in the courts rather than in the realm of discourse]
