It's both Mothers' Day and the semifinals/finals for Washington Youth Soccer's girls state championships this weekend. Have a look at these 2003 state winners, some who now might very well be moms themselves. #TBT

Fifty years ago professional soccer first came to The City of Destiny. Booth Gardner's striped Tacoma Tides played one glorious season at Cheney Stadium, making the ASL playoffs and many memories before dissolving. #TBT

In the early 90s, local soccer was struggling as the bid deadline neared for hosting World Cup games in Seattle. On Wed. night (6-7:30) in Redmond, we revisit our history and how the tide turned, bringing the 2026 tournament here. Free admission at the senior & community center.

Curious about of the history of soccer in our region? Join two locals, Matt Pentz, a former soccer reporter for The Seattle Times and The Athletic, and Frank MacDonald, historian and executive director for Washington State Legends of Soccer, to hear about the state’s history of the game and what’s changed since the last time the World Cup was played in the United States. The event will take place from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, at the Redmond Senior & Community Center (8703 160th Ave NE). Light snacks and refreshments will be provided, along with prize drawings. The World Cup tournament has also seen many changes since the last time it was played in the United States in 1994. The 2026 tournament marks the largest World Cup ever played, with 48 teams set to compete in matches across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Today, April 9, marks the 50th anniversary of Seattle breaking the North American soccer attendance record. A capacity crowd of 58,218 watched the Kingdome's first sporting event, a friendly featuring the Sounders & Cosmos. Pelé (pic) would score twice in New York's 3-1 win. #TBT

Root Sports Northwest fell off the local channel grid on Jan. 1. At one time or another Root and its previous iterations – Northwest Cable Sports, Prime Sports Northwest and Fox Sports Northwest – is where you could catch a college or pro soccer game, as this 1989 ad depicts.#TBT

Although their league expired some 11 years before the NBA left Seattle, the SeaDogs owned just as many championships as the Sonics. At one time the Sonics, SeaDogs and Storm were all operated by the Ackerley family under the Full House Entertainment umbrella. #TBT
