@sam__joseph In answer to your question, I don't think we'd be 21st under Mason, but we were declining (10 away defeats on bounce) & something needed to change - was difficult to see next win. Would say profligacy at both ends came to typify his reign, albeit summer recruitment hindered him.

@Warren_Stephens I have to say, the Ramsay appt flashed BRIGHT RED in that first game vs Boro, despite the comeback in 2nd half. Thoughts on whether you'd be well clear of 21st place now with Mason still in charge?

Have ended up keeping a gimlet eye on #WBA this season after writing a few bits on their managerial situation. Quick thread 🧵 This is very much an outsider’s view, so would be really interested in how this aligns (or not) with what Baggies fans are seeing.

@sam__joseph I feel like Ramsay tried to change too much, too quickly & instil a system that didn't suit the players. As you say, we'd been competitive in games & fine margins that needed refining, not conceding the initiative every week & playing on the counter, without any pace or out ball.

@sam__joseph There are probably a couple of nuances. Under Ramsay we were outplayed for a period, as he tried to change our setup & players didn't respond. Under Morrison, we are more aggressive in our press and that's led (so far) to us winning the ball back higher & increased goal threat.

9⃣ But the opportunity cost might effectively be one player - and potentially one who could have made a difference in scoring/creating chances. Interested to hear from #WBA fans on this, does this reflect what you’re seeing week-to-week? Does 21st feel a false position?

@sam__joseph I think that's a sound assessment. It's frustrating that, as you suggest, we aren't often outplayed nor are we losing to particularly good sides. We've been inefficient at both ends of pitch, tend to have possession in areas that don't hurt opponents & lack quality in final 3rd.

@_N47H4N By my reckoning, Neil Clement is the only 47-year-old ex-player who 'spent most of his career with West Brom', as the article says. Greening is 47 & played more games at Albion than anywhere else, but not a majority. Robinson more at Watford. Dobie at Carlisle, amongst others.

@sistoney67 @ManUtd Is Man Utd having a talented 15-year-old really worthy of @BBCSport's main headline? There are talented 15-year-olds at clubs across the country. Also, surely as a BBC Football writer, your remit is to provide broader coverage than effectively being a Man Utd correspondent?

@FBAwayDays 'Yippee aye ay, yippee aye oh, Holte Enders in the Sky'. Cringeworthy. Makes little sense. Anything generic & lacking originality, e.g. 'Your support is fucking shit' or 'du du du, football in a library' - everybody sings it to everybody, so each team's support must be terrible.

@danwba_ All fair & maybe that would have been a more appropriate assessment than what you wrote in comparing him to Lai, which was absurd. We were always likely to go backwards on the footballing side because of what Bilkul inherited. Aside from that, he's done & is doing some good work.

@Warren_Stephens Already had my say on today. Patel is a great businessman, but not a footballing man. He still needs a considerable amount of help to produce these results on the pitch. We’ve gone forwards in terms of finances but backwards everywhere else.

How the fuck have we managed to find an owner worse than Lai? You have no interest in improving this club, it’s been 2 years and we haven’t seen or heard of a single thing you’ve done apart from go backwards. Get the help you need or fuck off and accept your loss @shilensays

@BeefiBaggy Hope you and @DJL100671156000 have had chance to read the accounts that came out today, to see how much Shilen Patel has invested in keeping Albion afloat and operable. Bad decisions - fine, be critical, but tagging him in angry tweets almost every day was way off the mark.

@smoothjiminya Assuming you're travelling from the Midlands, Preston. Manchester obviously has plenty to keep you entertained, but it takes a lot longer and you either have to swap again at Bolton or work your way between Piccadilly and Victoria.

@danrbowen @WBA I think 6 if we're talking 90th minute or stoppage time goals that have cost us a win or draw: Derby (h) EFL Cup Leicester (h) Charlton (a) Leicester (a) Middlesbrough (h) Southampton (h)

@greggevans40 @mjmarr_star In affording you the same nuance as you seem to apply to your comments on Albion, I can spare some of your potential readers the trouble of going out and paying money for this book: Chapter 1 - Villa were taken over and outspent pretty much every club between the two. The end.

#WBA have improved under James Morrison. They’re now as good as they were under Ryan Mason.

@leboufdebrief I was drunk as a skunk yesterday so have very little recollection of what we spoke about, but it was good to see you, mate. As you say, nice to have a smile on our faces for a change. Right on the money, as always 👍🏻.

@BeefiBaggy @Fabriziostinko @shilensays He's undoubtedly made some poor decisions but what do you think he has promised and not delivered and how do you think he has deceived you or anybody else? He's still paying millions out of his own pocket for the club to continue existing.

@JackGoodwin2001 I was at Leicester game & it was our most purposeful away performance for a while - timing of the sacking was questionable. But it was a microcosm for what we'd been seeing for months, which was glaring inefficiency in both boxes. You might find Morrison until May is PSR-related.

@Warren_Stephens I watched that Leicester game… you battered them! 8 shots on target? Clubs will see this data but will likely panic when results don’t go the same way. I get it but to go for 2 pretty inexperienced coaches after that - is incomprehensible. If you go down, it’s on the board.

Can’t pretend to have any scope on Morrison’s managerial credentials but this is an incredibly bold move in the midst of a dogfight. A rookie going up against wily veterans - Rowett & O’Neill & a consistent overachiever like Mousinho - I know which horse I’m not backing. #WBA
West Bromwich Albion@WBA

We can confirm Interim Head Coach James Morrison will continue to lead the men’s first team for the remainder of the season. 🫡 The 39-year-old Baggies legend has today added highly regarded technical coach Matt Gill to his backroom staff for the Sky Bet Championship run-in. 🤝

@JackGoodwin2001 Find progressive passing & through balls v. difficult to believe. We scored 4 in those 5 games, lost 4 & wouldn't have scored at Swansea or Leics if still playing now. I take point that we've regressed since, but 10 defeats in 16 & 10 consecutive away probably more telling stats.

@Warren_Stephens WBA had the 3rd best xG ratio over his last 5 games, and the 4th best over the final 10. Top 6 for xPTs, xG/xGA. Top 6 for possession, progressive passing, turnovers in the final third, touches in opposition box, through balls etc. Having the league’s worst GK didn’t help.

Surely, would’ve been better sticking with Ryan Mason. A young coach, learning on the job with largely positive data behind him. #WBA
