I got rejected by 144 investors before raising $150M for my $200M+ rev/year startup. After 144 rejections, I started questioning our approach. Were we solving the right problem? What were we doing wrong? Why weren’t investors seeing what we were seeing? Were we the right team to build this? We tried everything: different pitch angles, new deck structures, and reframing the problem. Then came the 145th meeting, where we closed our first growth round. That yes made everything worth it. But getting there took years of mistakes and hard work. We went through a lot of trial and error just to figure out what resonates with investors. We tried dozens of approaches to figure out what made investors engage. Some landed, most didn't. But each iteration taught us something about what builds conviction versus what just sounds good on paper. And once we cracked that code, our Series C closed faster than expected. Words form thoughts. Thoughts drive actions. Actions define your life. It all begins with the words you use. Choose with care.

You don’t see people as they are— you see them as you are.

You don’t see others as they are—you see them as your mind imagines. Your senses receive 11 million bits each second; you can consciously process under 100. Each person is a universe too complex to fully grasp. So your brain filters reality through cognitive biases. Your mind crafts your perception of people using predictive coding, attachment styles, projection, mirror neurons, and the default mode network. So, do you really see others—or reflections of yourself?

Doing what you hate drains energy. Doing what you love creates it. Forcing it isn’t sustainable.

I used to say, “I don’t like that.” Then I became obsessed with it. What changed? Perspective. See differently—connect differently. Curiosity is the bridge. Ask: Why do they care? See what they see—and you’ll love it too.

Most people suck at communicating. They only talk about their interests. When it’s not theirs—they lose interest. Great communicators do the opposite. They don’t talk to be heard. They find common ground. Don’t like something? You’re missing an angle —
