We are shocked and saddened by the passing of Garret Anderson, a 17-year MLB veteran and a standout member of the 2002 World Series champion Angels. A Los Angeles native, Anderson debuted with the Angels in 1994 and spent 15 of his 17 Major League seasons with the team. He finished his career with the Braves and Dodgers, amassing 2,529 hits and a .293 career batting average. Anderson was a 3-time All-Star. In 2003, Anderson won the Home Run Derby, and as the starting left fielder for the AL, he went 3-for-4 with a home run to capture game MVP honors. A member of the Angels Hall of Fame, he holds several franchise records including games played (2,013), hits (2,368), doubles (489), extra-base hits (796), RBI (1,292), and total bases (3,743). In Game 7 of the 2002 World Series, it was Anderson’s 3-run double that provided the winning margin in a 4-1 victory to clinch the first championship in Angels history. He was 53 years old.

@rogerclemens I’m an A’s fan and live in the Sacramento area. The A’s are tied for 1st place and for 2 more seasons I can drive 20 minutes to see my team and resale tickets are about $25. My profile pic was taken after back-to-back Jacks at the Home Opener. 😂

@With2HoleInOnes One could argue that Rickey was the greatest ballplayer of our lifetime. When you consider the impact he had, especially in his prime, on every game he played in both offensively and defensively. He was certainly the greatest lead-off hitter in my lifetime.

@JohnnyOldfield5 Same. I watched him come up as a rookie with the A’s. Went to the game he broke Lou Brock’s all time SB record. The most I’ve ever loved another man that was not in my family. Rickey was a real joy and belongs on Mt Rushmore of MLB. RIP 🐐
