After the 2019 Corbyn defeat, I took annual leave and went to stay with my parents at their home in rural southern Virginia to knock doors for Bernie. I didn’t grow up there. I didn’t use the Bernie app. I just knocked every door. What I found was simple: Trump voters were far more open to Bernie than liberal Buttigieg or Klobuchar voters. Because politics isn’t a line from Trump to Bernie with the “sensible centre” in between. The centre is the status quo. The right and left both challenge it, for worse or for better. And it’s easier to move people from the right to the left than from the centre to anywhere at all.

NEW: A full 10% of NYC Trump voters turned around and voted for Zohran Mamdani. So we went to talk to them. These voters are done with the status quo. One New Yorker told us: "As Americans, we can realize it's not Republican versus Democrat. It's more of like a class war."
