NEW: Disney shared new details about Monstropolis at Disney's Hollywood Studios, revealing guests will visit the land to celebrate H.U.M.A.N. Day (Humans Understand Monsters Are Nice). Disney also officially confirmed guests will be able to dine at Harryhausen's.

The land is just set 100+ years after the conflicts between humans and Na’vi (‘cause Jim wouldn’t give Rohde a story). The indigenous very much exist; in harmony with us. They’re heard in the trees, and seen in the River Journey.

Well, it took two minutes for me to change my mind. I saw the #CarouselOfProgress news and said, "This is the way to go." Then I saw the decades they picked. What progress are you really seeing from '85 to '99? Shouldn’t it have been ‘49, ‘69, ‘99, and possible future? 🤦🏼‍♂️

It was simple: start with Walt introducing his childhood era, move to the '69 moon landing, the millennium, and finally, the “possible” future. That’s how you honor the history of the ride. Instead of going from ‘85 to ‘99.

@dsnymike it was a time capsule for you, but that was not the original intent of the ride. It’s normal to be sad it’s changing. It’s also okay to feel uneasy about changes! From what I have heard, I think they’re going to nail this one. And if they don’t, please drag me for being a fool.

It was a hopeful little time capsule from an era where the future felt optimistic, simple, and full of possibility.

@_TylerDean I think it would have made sense to keep the first scene original and then skip to 69, then 99, then the future. That way you at least save PART of Walt’s version while updating it for the future.

I don’t think he would have let it sit barely updated for 60 years. It is completely against the message of the show! You can be skeptical regarding the execution, but the announcement makes a lot of sense. This makes it near perfect timing to completely redo the show.

I used to envision the show evenly expanding the decades. Nowadays, I'm more nostalgic, but—this is the way to go. Sadly, it’ll be sanitized, erasing historical realities like Mother doing the wash or John's excitement for the first talking film. “Well, that’s progress for ya.”
