Today I've been married for 6 months. We’ve been together for 6 years & 6 months. These are the lessons I've learned to thrive as a power couple: 1. Time alone is necessary. 2. Fill your cup first. Fill the other after. 3. Pets are a great way to learn parenting. 4. Don’t assume. If you don’t ask, nothing will happen. 5. Holding space and say nothing is often the best solution. 6. If you stop working on yourself, your relationship will suffer. 7. The only leader driving decisions is the “us”, not the you or I. 8. Arguments are never about your partner. It’s always about you. 9. If you have sex once a month, your relationship has a problem. 10. If you don’t heal your wounds, the same arguments will come up. 11. There is no end state to ‘balance’. The relationship will constantly evolve. 12. Couple therapy is underrated. It’s the best investment you can ever make. 13. If there is only one partner ‘providing’, it’s difficult for the other to feel heard. 14. If you don’t know yourself enough, you can’t expect the other to understand you. 15. The grass is always greener on the other side. Changes have to happen within you. 16. Coffee dates are overrated. A good date is laugh, disconnect and don’t look at your phone. 17. Relationship is done in 3: me, you & us. They’ve different personalities, dreams & desires. 18. Finding your ‘better half’ is a BS concept. We are both ‘whole’ nurturing a new whole. We call it ‘us’.
