Most payment infrastructure is built for one side of the transaction. A402 is built for both. Identity checks are slow because everyone runs them at settlement time. We don't. A402 screens wallets upfront — sanctions, AML, trust tier — then caches the result for 24h. By the time an agent pays, the answer is already there. Policy gate: <50ms. Not because we skip the check. Because we already did it.

On Arc, the full loop is synchronous. Agent hits endpoint → gate check (cached) → sign → settled. Under 500ms, end to end. No queue. No async detour. The agent gets a 200 back like any other API call — because to A402, a verified wallet is just a fast lookup, not a live compliance run.
