@NetSpatial Hadn’t seen this before, very interesting. I wonder if in tissue-appropriate tumors there could be added lactate “mop” bacteria if it could have some therapeutic value. Though making a dent on systemic lactate levels is harder, the liver is extremely efficient at metabolizing it.

@veiga_pat Thanks Patrick! Fermented foods to increase lactate concentrations in the gut could very well help promote Veillonella, but perhaps there is no better strategy than exercise (though eating kimchi from my couch sounds much more appealing than strapping on running shoes)

Congrats Alex! Very nice work! I wonder if eating lactate enriched products (such as fermented foods) prior physical effort , could ‘train’ your microbiome to more efficiently convert muscle-derived lactate into SCFA?

To my #genomics and #microbiota colleagues: though @Novogene_US's prices may lure you in, be wary trusting time-sensitive business (is there any other kind?) to them. The turnaround timeline is a complete mystery from day 1 and they'll keep you guessing past your grant deadlines
