Does North Carolina care more about the family or winning national titles? Its decision on Hubert Davis will tell us everything we need to know. And after losing to VCU, the decision should be obvious. Column for ⁦@YahooSportssports.yahoo.com/mens-college-b…

I had a fascinating conversation with @AsiaLens Demetri Sevastopulo of the FT about US-China relations, now and in Trump’s first term, Trump’s delayed China trip and why it may be delayed longer than 5-6 weeks, Taiwan, and the visit later this week to Washington by Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi….outside the paywall sinocism.com/p/sinocism-liv…

Agents Over Bubbles Agents are fundamentally changing the shape of demand for compute, both in terms of how they work and in terms of who will use them. They're so compelling that I no longer believe we're in a bubble. stratechery.com/2026/agents-ov…

It sounds dramatic but it’s economically irrelevant if China can get Gulf supply through while others can’t, so long as global arbitrage still holds. China will just buy more from the Gulf and less from everyone else. Those displaced barrels then flow to the rest of the world. Traders, shipowners, and commodity desks around the world will react to even small premiums/discounts to redirect flows and keep the arb working. Energy hegemony isnt about who gets a few cargoes through one passage while the arb still holds. It is about who can control enough of the surrounding system, to break arbitrage in wartime and create real shortages for an adversary. Iran has enough power to raise prices on everyone. But it doesnt have the power to override the global clearing mechanism to create shortages for one specific country without creating them for everyone else. What the US is working towards in Iran and Venezuela is to build enough control over the entire system so that in a wartime scenario they can keep the market from clearing and China’s shortage premium can’t call forth replacement supply. So it doesnt matter whether Iranian crude is flowing today. The real question is whether the US is constructing the ability to shut that flow off, and more importantly to keep alternative channels from replacing it when it matters most. That’s what the allies accomplished in WWII and it proved decisive. That is the real hegemonic test.

@andrewsharp What is the point of hypothetically asking what if the US controlled the strait and used it against China when the result is currently Iran controls it and is only letting friendly nations access it?

It's hardly the most important thing happening in British public life right now, but the clear indication that a country and its governing institutions can't identify a gaggle of historical figures with broad appeal without fear of too much of controversy is quite a sad sign
Bloomberg@business

Winston Churchill will soon disappear from UK banknotes, as the cigar-toting, wartime leader makes way for creatures like hedgehogs and badgers. After a public consultation, the next generation of pound notes will feature native British wildlife, according to the Bank of England. Read more: bloom.bg/4lsPoZ2 📷: Joe Giddens/AFP

Just remember guys, life is a marathon, not a sprint. But also, to even be remotely competitive in a marathon, you should be running at a 5:16 mile pace. Otherwise you’re a hobbyist and nobody will remember you.
