The committee has approved plans for a 109-bed HMO in the former Portland Hotel. The councillors approved the application by 6 votes to 5.

On the 109-bed HMO, Lib Dem Cllr Terry Keal has said: "If this application doesn't go through, what are we going to be left with? A building that's falling down, that's going to cost the council millions of pounds to shift. This is an ideal opportunity."
