Dear Donald,
Hi. It’s Iran. Yes, the country you’re currently at war with. We just wanted to reach out personally to let you know that we are in a complete state of collapse. The economy is gone, the government is held together with prayer and desperation, and the people are not having a great time.
So here’s the thing: could you possibly, maybe, if it’s not too much trouble, open the Strait of Hormuz? We’re not asking for much. Just the ability to sell oil so we can afford bread. Pretty please.
No hard feelings about the bombing. Well, some feelings. But we’re being very mature about it.
Love always,
Iran
Iran did not write that letter. Iran has not called. Iran has not emailed, faxed, or sent a carrier pigeon. What actually happened is that Donald Trump stood in front of cameras and told the world that Iran is “begging for a deal,” that his phone is “ringing off the hook,” and that foreign leaders are “saying things to me that you wouldn’t believe.”
No. They aren’t. He made it up. All of it.
With the breezy confidence of a nine-year-old explaining why the dog ate the homework that was never actually written.
The remarkable thing is not that he lies. Politicians lie. It’s that he lies about things that can be checked, by people who are watching, in real time, and then looks mildly offended when anyone points it out.
But it’s on the news now. So it must be true.
