16/05/26. The team marshalled the Goatfell Hill Race again this year. Winner - Tom Spencer of Dark Peak Fell Runners, who won the race in an impressive time of 1 hour 14 minutes and 32 seconds. Mark Bentley and Lynda Fenton of Arran Runners, were first local male and female.

❌ CALLOUT ❌ 05/05/26 to assist The Ambulance Service with a walker who had become unwell in Glen Rosa and fallen, sustaining minor injuries. Working with the SCA, the team helped to evacuate the casualty and handed them over to a waiting Ambulance. #ScottishMR #StJohnScotland

Team members recently completed Water Rescue Scotland’s Whitewater Rescue Technician Advanced course, designed for operating in challenging environments such as grade 4-5 whitewater, as well as gorges and canyons where vertical access and egress may be required.

This intensive, hands-on course took place on the Findhorn and Spey rivers, with search scenarios conducted in both daylight and night-time conditions.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to BT Business and their Head of Innovation, Douglas Adam. With their generous support, we are trialling the EE Rapid Connectivity Case and Starlink Mini, which will significantly improve our comms in remote locations across the island

Effective communication is essential when managing complex and often fast-moving situations on the hill, and this equipment will make a significant contribution to improving our communications on the ground.

❌ CALLOUT ❌ 11/04/26 A hillwalker with a lower leg injury between Catacol and Lochranza. The casualty was given pain relief and the injury was splinted before being stretchered along the path and handed over to the Scottish Ambulance Service.

❌ CALLOUT ❌ 05/04/26, A missing and overdue hill walker who had become separated from their group on Goatfell. Eventually located in Glen Rosa, having sustained injuries while descending steep and difficult ground. The walker was handed over to the Ambulance service.

❌ CALLOUT ❌ 04/04/26 A walker had sustained an ankle injury in the Fairy Dell area near Lochranza. The casualty’s injury was splinted, warmed up and evacuated by Argo Cat to Lochranza, where they were handed over to an Ambulance for transport to hospital.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to all who knew and loved him.

Our sincere thanks to the friends and family of the late Iain McConnell, who generously donated over £1,500 to the team following his funeral. Iain was a much-loved member of the Arran community and well known to several of our team. He will be sorely missed.

❌ CALLOUT ❌ 22/3/26 Around 4am, to assist a group of three people who had become disoriented in forestry near Whiting Bay. Fortunately, it was possible to locate them using PhoneFind, and they were quickly brought to safety with the assistance of Police Scotland.

❌ CALLOUT ❌ 8/3/26 …to a hillwalker with a lower leg injury on the Goatfell Path above Corrie. Team members deployed on foot and by Argo Cat as darkness fell. After being treated for their pain, the casualty was evacuated by stretcher to a waiting ambulance.

The team were out training this week, in the area south of the String. The focus was practising search techniques in rough terrain and reduced visibility. Five areas were systematically searched. The day was concluded with a stretcher evacuation of a casualty.
