@bertgilfoyle_ @Jake_B30 Sorry. What was our record last year? And the defense improved a lot in the secondary. We already drafted guys like turner to address the line. He just needs to get healthy

The #Bears freed up $10.3M in cap space by restructuring Cole Kmet and Jonah Jackson. Notable FA defensive linemen: • Jadeveon Clowney • Joey Bosa • Cam Jordan • Haason Reddick • A.J. Epenesa • Calais Campbell • DJ Reader

@LoganTnelson @jacobinfante24 The defensive line was our biggest issue last season and has not been improved. For them to rely on a bad defensive end who’s never shown anything in his career and a rookie coming off a torn ACL is the dumbest thing you could possibly do

@CeeVee3YT No we just mad that the most important position in defense has been neglected throughout his tenure and even after having a bottom 3 defense .

State of Chicago Bears: Ryan Poles is Living on a Prayer In 2024, Chicago Bears reached a new low. New QB, New weapons, NEW OC.... same HC, same results. It proved that QB was not the sole issue. The trenches were awful and the HC was incompetent. In 2025, we witnessed a team that understood the desperation that the franchise was in. The confidence and development of Caleb Williams was on the line! With the leadership of Ben Johnson, The Chicago Bears had one of the greatest offensive drafts and seasons that we haven't witnessed in years. Ben Johnson understood what needed to be done. 1. Caleb Williams needed to be held to the fire. Give him the tools and demand the work to be put in. 2. Johnson understood that he is only as good as his coaching staff. He has facilitated one of the best group of coaches Bears has had. 3. Trenches needed to be revamped. Thuney, Dalman, and Ozzy made a significant difference in our pass pro and run game. 4. Ben recognized that Caleb is a distributer more so than a QB that leans upon 1 or 2 guys. The acquisition of Colston Loveland and Luther Burden raised the talent level of our offense and increased the competition. Too many guys were complacent the year prior. 5. Johnson understood that he is only as good as his coaching staff. He has facilitated one of the best group of coaches Bears has had. Result: Bears went 11-6, won the NFC North, and went to the playoffs This is worthy of celebrating, in which I did. But I also recognize the reality of our wins and how they were obtained The Chicago Bears offense is not the primary reason the Bears went 11-6! 1. The Main reason the Bears won games is not the offense. It was due to the takeaways generated by the defense. Despite the porous defensive line and run defense, Bears defense had 33 takeaways, which led the NFL. 2. Bears offensive run game was engine of the offense. The Chicago Bears finished 3rd in the NFL in rushing yards. This is mainly due to the revamped offensive line and scheme provided by Johnson. 3. Bears passing offense was a low efficiency, high volume offense with a high volume of explosive playmaking. Top 10 in passing attempts and production. But also bottom of the league in pass completion, bad throw percentage, and pass sucess rate. All the talent, protection, and coaching needed to throw for over 4k. But efficiency was not there! Hopefully we get there next year because we will need it. 4. Pure dependency on winning late in the game. This is not sustainable and can easily transition an 11-6 team to a 6-11 team. Bears lost because of the identity that we had built the entire year. To live and die by the sword. Living and dying on a bend dont break defense that generated turnovers until they didnt. Living and dying on winning in late game situation until that didn't work If we are going to be an aggressive team that passes up FGs and scoring opportunities, we need to become far more efficient as a whole! What did Bears need to change this offseason? 1. Improve defensive line! Our "bend dont break" defense couldn't limit the Rams from scoring when our offense struggled. With no turnovers, Bears defense became a non-factor. We needed a playmaker at EDGE opposite Sweat and some stud DTs to boost the run defense. 2. Retain or replace guys that led to 2025 season. Byard and Wright both had 7 INTS each. Dj Moore was our greatest offensive weapon. Their absences will be felt... 3. Give Caleb Williams an Offensive tackle and Center to ensure OL stays elite. With Ozzy's injury and Dalman's retirement, OL became a desperate hole to fix Conclusion: Ryan Poles mainly had one thing to do this offseason. Maintain our core guys, patch OL, and build this defensive line out! I understand Poles spent major money on Odeyingbo and Jarett, but if they are not producing, don't just be complacent and run it back with them!! Bears defense bottom of the league in every stat except turnovers is not sustainable, especially if Byard and Wright are no longer here. Reuben Bain slid to 15!!! Mesidor didn't go until pick 22!! Kayden Macdonald and Zion Young were well in reach with Bears have two 2nd round picks! We witnessed the run on defensive line and just did nothing!!! I love the guys we selected. All of them can be great with Ben Johnson. But its been 5 years of Ryan Poles completely whiffing and not addressing the defensive line. You are wasting our time as Bears fans because everyone knows that you can not win superbowl with bottom of the league run defense and no pass rush. Our hopes rely on the 5th round guys we drafted years ago and overpaid free agents So be it...

@jimmywilliamdos @itsmine49 This was meant to be a deep DE/DL class. What are you on about? 2 DTs. Mediocre mentalities like you are the reason why we haven’t made consecutive playoff runs since 2005s. Disgusting

@bertgilfoyle_ @itsmine49 I don’t think you understand that this draft class is extremely thin. I don’t think you understand reaching for a fringe talent isn’t smart. I don’t think you understand Ben Johnson is smarter than you. You are retarded, go be a fan of the Vikings. They took 2 DTs!

@jimmywilliamdos @itsmine49 Retardation is not addressing a DL that had 31st rank on run defense and 26th on pass rush . Retardation is not addressing the 2nd most important position on the field after the passer, the pass rusher . Retardation is not addressing your DL for 5 seasons you have been a GM for.

If Ben Johnson wants to go to the Super Bowl by scoring 30+ points a game, you’re not gonna catch me complaining

I don't think people understand how much Dennis Allen squeezed out of a defensive roster that was a major misfit for what he likes. Their FA turnover/moves alone promise improvement. The Bears' strength is offense. Supercharging it further is totally fine.

@KraftyyDad @RCCola9179 @GBraggsJr23 Thissss. How long are we gonna wait for the “board to look good”. Pass rush in this game is 2nd important to a QB. You CANNOT be this negligent if you want to contend or even think of a championship / a ring

@RCCola9179 @GBraggsJr23 That's fair; but if you keep waiting for gold to fall in your lap - at a premium position especially, and it keeps passing you by, it's about time to try something new.

As I've said many times this offseason, Ben Johnson can do whatever the F he wants. That being said...
