Today, I had the great honour of representing Minister @michaelparsa and attending the Open Doors event of the West Scarborough Neighbourhood Community Centre’s newly renovated facility.

September 30 is the day to observe the National Day for Truth and Reconsolidation in Canada. I was honoured to join West Scarborough Neighbourhood Community Centre to recall the horrors of the Indian Residential School system and pay tribute to the survivors for their resilience and recall the injustice befell on them, their families, and their communities. Orange Shirt Day was inspired by Indian Residential School Survivor Phyllis Webstad, who bravely shared her experience of attending St. Joseph Mission Residential School in British Columbia. The Truth and Reconciliation Day reminds us of our responsibility to confront the legacies of our past and work towards a more just and inclusive future. Through the sharing of stories, cultural performances, and reflection, we move one step closer to healing and reconciliation.
