and this is particularly egregious bc people are taking home 32% less of their income in taxes meant to fund public services like healthcare and infrastructure, which aren’t functioning, so they end up paying privately, which is essentially paying twice, e.g through medical aid.

Lesotho 🇱🇸 wants to renegotiate its water deal with South Africa 🇿🇦 . Through the Lesotho Highlands Water Project, water flows from Lesotho to Gauteng, including Johannesburg. Right now, Lesotho earns about $200 million a year, around 10% of its economy. But the deal was signed in 1986, and Lesotho says it’s outdated. They now want higher royalties and better compensation. Talks are expected to begin in April 2026.
