I’m sure many journalists had one of those searing #DesmondTutu moments. Mine was in 2000s as he investigated Israeli-Palestinian violence for UN Human Rights Council /1

The question, not verbatim, was along the lines of “How can you laugh when people are dead?” I remember the room turning dead silent and Tutu holding everyone’s breath as he paused.

Briefing at the UN in Geneva, I believe on Beit Hanoun, he received an aggressive question from 1 reporter, who mistook his characteristic chuckle for callousness or insensitivity /2
