PRESS STATEMENT: ODUDUWA HALL NOT AVAILABLE FOR PETER OBI’s LECTURE — OAU
The authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, wish to clarify the circumstances surrounding the proposed lecture by His Excellency, Peter Obi, at the University.
The general public is hereby informed that a particular group within the Students’ body extended an invitation to the former Presidential Candidate and two-term Governor of Anambra State to deliver a lecture within the University premises.
The University authorities were not duly informed of the status and calibre of the invited guest until Friday, just a day before the scheduled programme.
It is important to note that events involving high-profile personalities of such standing require adequate prior notification to the University authorities because it will enable the institution to make necessary logistical and security arrangements, including proper liaison with relevant security agencies such as the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services (DSS), in order to ensure the safety of the guest, members of the University community and the general public.
Consequently, given the short notice and the attendant inability to complete these critical arrangements, the University authorities could not approve the use of Oduduwa Hall for the event as requested by the organisers.
The decision was taken purely in the interest of safety, orderliness and adherence to established protocols governing the use of University facilities, adding that it is not, in any way, a reflection of disregard for the person or status of His Excellency, Peter Obi, whom the University holds in high esteem.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire is, and remains committed to supporting intellectual engagements and hosting distinguished personalities, provided that due process is followed and adequate notice is given.
Members of the University community, students and the general public are therefore enjoined to always comply with laid-down procedures in planning events within the University because we all are partners in progress for the overall development of the University.

@cbngov_akin1 Let me help your ignorance. Almost everyone supporting BAT and APC are ignoramus, and cheap. OAU was caught red handed. Check the attachment

English

@TheGreatestIFE Now that you have been caught red handed, I hope you live to enjoy the shameful act of lies, deceit and sabotaging the future of the university students, who could have benefited from @PeterObi speech.

In Lagos State, a “solar permit” doesn’t mean everyone must pay government before using solar. The reality is more specific and a bit misunderstood.
A solar permit (or approval) in Lagos simply means:
-You must get government approval before installing solar panels IF your building falls under certain regulated structures (especially government housing estates).
Where a solar permit is REQUIRED
If you live in:
-Government-owned housing estates
-State-built flats or social housing
Then:
Solar installation is treated as a structural alteration.
You must:
-Apply to the Ministry of Housing
-Get approval
-Possibly pay an administrative fee
-Allow inspection before/after installation
This is because:
Buildings are shared infrastructure
Roofs, wiring, and structure affect other residents.
Poor installations have caused fires and roof damage in the past.
Where a solar permit is NOT required
If you live in:
-A private house
-A privately owned duplex or apartment
You generally do NOT need a solar permit from Lagos State Government.
The government has clearly stated:
The permit/fee issue only applies to state-owned estates.
It is NOT a general law for all Lagos residents.

English

@22Tunmise @adeosunm Permit to install solar. Permit to build house. Permit to drive car. I mean, it's indefensible. But then, Nigerians have been brainwashed to support their oppressors. Ghana is providing subsidy on solar, and here you are defending the opposite.

English

@breakdboundary @adeosunm What make you to think the law is about paying tax on solar?
English

@22Tunmise @adeosunm In foreign countries, there is stable electricity and solar is subsidized. Paying tax on electricity isn't the same as solar.
English

@breakdboundary @adeosunm In foreign countries you will pay tax on the cars you purchase with your money. Can we call that cruelty too.
English

@AyoBankole NELFUND is a loan. None of the politicians children - including majority of APC supporters will allow their children attend any of the schools in Nigeria today. They destroyed the public institution, and send their children to private schools or overseas.
English

This is such a pathetically misleading and dishonest take. One of the biggest reasons why our education remains bad is because it is cheap. One of the reasons it is cheap is because we are poor. Since we can't exponentially revamp the schools and fees, moderate increase and INTEREST FREE student loans are a brilliant intervention! It's not everything that should be political and a policy that benefits our children is one of them. However way you look at it, NELFUND is one of the fantastic initiatives of this govt.
Ayo-Elesho@Ayoelesho
NELFUND is one of the most wicked initiatives of APC. You refused to fund public universities, which have always been free or heavily subsidised. You then started giving loans to students who are not assured of jobs after graduation.
English

@akintollgate This is a no brainer, considering other African countries do this effortlessly. Ghana, SA, Kenya, Tanzania etc
English

When minimum wage is N77,000 you want university tuition in a federal institution to be N12,500 ?
We can discuss decay of the academic sector and corruption in parallel, but socialist attitudes is why we have poorly funded institutions. Quality of education is associated with program costs. This is where govt programs offer cushion to make it affordable.
Please give me sound arguments on this topic!
Chris♏@ChrisTalksToo
@akintollgate Sir, before this sham of a govt, Law students in Unilag paid 12,500 for tuition. Now, it's 200k+, with loans given to people who won't get jobs after graduation... no matter the grade whether 1st class or pass. And a 1st class can't see the joke in it all? You see the joke now?
English

@akintollgate Advocating for free education is not a socialist mindset, particularly in the most economically disadvantaged neighborhoods across the federation. How else do you pull people from poverty without investing in subsidized education and skill acquisition centers?
English

@22Tunmise @adeosunm Asking people to pay for a service you did not provide is fraud. The people has already paid tax on their incomes, tax on sales (purchase of solar), tax on fuel, tax from the bank for transfer during transaction. Stop defending cruelty.
English

@breakdboundary @adeosunm If you said electricity is not constant.Yes it is.But at the same time govt must enact a preventative measure so as to avoid disaster. Two truth can co-exist.
English

@22Tunmise @adeosunm No it's not. Government failed to provide electricity for the people, and now people spent their hard earned money to do what government was supposed to do, and you think that government is entitled to get paid for what it didn't provide? That's ridiculous.
English

@breakdboundary @adeosunm No. It is for the benefits of the people. That was the same way some states overlook the issues of drilling borehole in every house. Before it turn to an issues of national concern.
English

@FinPlanKaluAja1 This is not about Arsenal. This is about BAT blaming OBJ for the privatization of Nepa. Sarcasm at its best 👌
English

@FinPlanKaluAja1 As a president, BAT isn't interested in fixing anything. All he wants is the title of being a president. Where on earth have you seen or heard that a president also serve as a minister?
English

To fix the power supply in Nigeria, you need someone who understands engineering and all, but has the powers of a czar and has the full backing of the president
Someone who won't allow customs service to hold containers of transformers at ports, or take excuses from security agencies for failure to protect gas pipelines. Someone powerful enough to take on unions and the generator mafia
Instead of the Petroleum Minister, the President should have been a Minister of Power
