Hamza Hammoud rode his motorcycle all the way from Bir al-Abed in the southern suburbs of Beirut to the border area with occupied Palestine, what is part of historic Jabal Amel (south Lebanon). Hamza hid out in a valley overnight before entering his family's native southern Lebanese village of Markaba. He successfully bypassed the physical border 'defenses' at the Ramim Ridge and crossed into the geographical perimeter of the settlement of Margaliot (which was the village of Hunin before it was ethnically cleansed). Hamza then crossed into the northern settlement with simple, personal weapons to engage the Israeli forces. He died confronting Israeli soldiers.

BREAKING | Israeli media reports that a Lebanese resistance fighter approached the border and fired on Israeli occupation forces near the Margaliot settlement, clashing with them. Hebrew sources say he was killed. According to Israel's public broadcaster, the fighter managed to cross the border. Israel's Channel 12 says search operations are ongoing for a second fighter near the border.

Jabal Amel is the essence of every southerner. It is our compass and the guiding principle that directs us. It is the soil that pulls us back when imperialism attempts to scatter us; it is the unyielding gravity that led Hamza Hammoud to ride a motorcycle from Dahye to the south. Armed with nothing but simple weapons, he crossed the border fence not as a stranger, but as a son returning to the displaced hills of Hunin. Jabal Amel is a pulse that Israel has long tried to subdue. Instead, with every attack on our villages and our people, that pulse quickens. Hamza did not die in a foreign land; he drew his last breath where the dirt of Markaba meets the ridges of the Upper Galilee, proving that no matter how deep the occupation cuts its borders, the spirit of Jabal Amel remains whole and forever calling us home.

Hamza Hammoud's final stand was the living embodiment of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's warning to Israel, just days after the July War began: "You do not know whom you are fighting...You are fighting a people who possess a faith unlike anyone else on the face of the earth."

After 3 days without any support, a kind person donated $275 today. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who helped during this difficult time. ❤️ I still need $250 to reach my goal and restore my home. Every donation, share, and kind word means so much. chuffed.org/project/159125…

On the anniversary of the Omani People’s Revolution, we present a rare collection of film clips captured in 1969, at the height of the revolutionary struggle. Oman was one of the Cold War’s fiercest yet most forgotten battlefields.

Foreign forces in proximity to our territory are at constant risk on account of their own human errors, plain accidents, or potentially being caught in crossfire. To reduce risk, best solution is for them to leave. We prefer language of diplomacy but speak other languages too.

“Even if you besiege us, we do not feel it…for we have with us the earth, the mountains, the valleys, the soil, the rivers, the seas, the oceans, the clouds, the winds, the sun, the moon, the stars…it is not us, but you who are besieged.” — Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah

This is also what the US did to the northern part of Korea as punishment for its national liberation struggle. To this day, the US uses satellite imagery to mock the DPRK’s supposed backwardness compared to the southern US occupation zone, which was propped up with massive economic handouts while the north was economically besieged. Imperialism’s cruelty and shamelessness know no bounds.

Such a tenderly written and important piece unveiling "the quiet twin of war" in Gaza. This, too, is part of a long genocidal effort by zionists to erase Palestinians. A must read.

On Gaza’s Hidden Epidemic of Male Infertility for @newlinesmag, my project is finally out in the world. A two-year investigation into the reproductive aftershocks of American-made bombs on Palestinian men. The story follows Saeed and his decade-long pursuit for fatherhood amid mounting debt, repeated bombardment, blockaded IVF clinics, and the acutely distressing burdens of masculine shame and social stigma. A predicament borne by thousands of men confronting the far-reaching reproductive consequences of life under Israel's siege. Since Israel’s assaults have razed much of Gaza’s IVF infrastructure (a total of nine IVF labs), medical statistics hardly exist. Anecdotal evidence, already rarely heard outside the bedroom, is also in short supply. The Israeli military has long depressed community birth rates across Gaza while converting a heavily subsidized reproductive *entitlement* in Israel (IVF) into a punishing war of exhaustion for Palestinians struggling with infertility. Embryos, medications, culture media and the specialized laboratory equipment upon which Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) depends move at the mercy of Israel's illegal twenty-year blockade. Across the iron wall and for Israeli citizens, reproduction isn’t an extractive gamble, but an exceptionally generous state project involving multiple, state-subsidized treatment cycles and support. It is an engine of continuity and a national priority shaped by Israel's demographic anxieties. Please read about the deranged courage, hope and unimaginable costs required to pursue fatherhood under siege. newlinesmag.com/reportage/gaza…
