This is crazy. Investigating cases (even low risk ones) is WAY beyond a teacher’s area of expertise. We cannot build trusting relationships and investigate cases at the same time. lakelandtoday.ca/local-news/nlp…

@offgridteacher Mini whiteboards (really just page protectors with card stock) so all students can respond and/or I can see who is ready to share with the class. Works good for think time during think pair share activities too.

How do you call on students? *Don’t say popsicle sticks, please. I have been using the Class Dojo random name generator, but am no longer comfortable using it as a platform. I observed a class last week where a teacher took points off for students who went to the bathroom.

It’s too bad that mandate frustrations are spilling over into schools. I worry that parent/student/teacher trust is being eroded by misplaced blame. We need to refocus on being partners to build positive conditions for learning.

I'm keen to find some fun/interesting non-social-media places to visit online. Anyone have any sites to suggest?

@edtech_nicole @Usingtechbetter @hapara_team Love Hapara. I release content small bits at a time through workspace. It’s so versatile you can share all types of digital content to individuals or small groups. Work can be submitted and returned with feedback multiple times too!

@JanisIrwin Mental health supports for all. Re-thinking the structure of mental health supports through the public system; youth and the most vulnerable in society are not getting service when or where they need it.

Keep the responses coming! Seriously, I want to know. So far COVID and curriculum are the most common answers across my social media!

Proud of myself for a self-care day with brunch, a river valley walk with a great pal, and many dogs, including Simba, who wanted to show me his Halloween costume. 🥺🦖 Back in work mode and back to the #ableg tomorrow. I’d love to know: what issues are top of mind for you?

@teachergrind I truly believe elementary schools should consider using the subject specialist approach. A teacher specialized in math education will develop strategies, vocabulary and activities that are consistent across grade levels and improve fluency.

Because I’m a HS math teacher, I have so many thoughts and questions about this times table debate. At the forefront is this: elementary teachers typically teach all the core subjects and don’t have a planning period, correct?

@TMikaTeaching @teachergrind Yes and it’s 30 minutes to plan 6 subjects while secondary teachers get a planning period for each named class they teach! I dint know about you, but 30 minutes was never enough.

Dear calculator manufacturers: please stop rounding the last digit on the screen. Signed, middle school math teachers and students who take everything at face value. #math

@caitteach Check out “Box Cars and One Eyed Jacks” materials, Esti-mysteries, Which one doesn’t belong, and Quick Draw. All can be found online. I also use games like KenKen and Hashiwokakero.

Hey #btps28 teachers, if you haven’t already checked out Mote, adding voice to your Google Forms could be a big win over these next few weeks.

Check out this thorough analysis of the current draft curriculum. The highlight pages given to the public are very deceiving. There are too many concerning issues to even consider piloting it. #throwitout alberta-curriculum-analysis.ca
