PTR’s was supposed to be a no-contest. TRB Rajaa’s was supposed to be a cakewalk. Senthil Balaji’s was supposed to be a done deal. Durai Murugan’s was supposed to be his fiefdom. Why have these turned into tight contests? Read the tea leaves.

There's been a lot of controversy about this speech. I confess, I am not entirely sure why. Singapore wasn't attacking any of its neighbours in it (it was a domestic aimed speech), although for some reason external politicians decided to project onto it. And surely we should want more, not less, focus on international law?

Economist interns won't survive half a day in Kolkata without their dollar/GBP expense accounts and Bong Aantel chaperones. Kolkata is least liveable for poor to middle class who need jobs/work and most liveable for the wealthy and retirees.
The Economist@TheEconomist

The mix of low prices and handouts has made Kolkata the best big Indian city in which to be poor or middle-class. But it is less hospitable to those with greater ambition economist.com/asia/2026/04/1…

I joined CNN Newsroom with @rosemaryCNN to discuss the outcome of the Islamabad talks and what comes next. The collapse does NOT mean the end of negotiations. The two-week ceasefire still holds, and further rounds are likely in the coming days. A few key points 🧵

The U.S. military will enforce a blockade in Gulf of Oman and Arabian Sea east of the Strait of Hormuz and it will apply to all vessel traffic regardless of flag, the U.S. Central Command said in a note to seafarers seen by Reuters on Monday. The advanced note said the blockade would come into effect at 1400 GMT on Monday. "Any vessel entering or departing the blockaded area without authorization is subject to interception, diversion, and capture," the note said. "The blockade will not impede neutral transit passage through the Strait of Hormuz to or from non-Iranian destinations."

Lots to criticize about UAE statecraft in Yemen, Sudan, Somalia and Libya BUT they have understood how important it is to emerge from the static and passive strategic status quo in the Gulf As global players the Gulf states need to find ways to leverage their global hub position in energy, logistics and finance to pursue their interests (within the confined of international law) This also means emerging from this unhealthy co-dependent relationship with Washington to achieve more strategic autonomy and sovereignty

They tried with farm unions in 2022; they'll try with labour unions in 2027. Soon, the four labour reforms will be blamed for the protests, and an attempt will be made to get the gig workers to protest. Crackdown on arsonists is the need of the hour. Violence is non-negotiable.

As they say, "true greatness shines brightest in quiet humility", Hon'ble PM @narendramodi ji's humbleness is truly inspiring. Despite the immense responsibilities he carries, he stands with the karyakartas as one of our own.

If Western nations want to solve the immigration problem from India, they just need to do one small tweak to the policy. Stop all asylum applications from India under the pretext that India is a democracy and under that you cannot apply for asylum. This entire immigration scam will die.

Yesterday, Hungary has chosen a new direction. With 98% of the votes counted, we have secured 138 seats in the 199-member parliament, representing more than 3.1 million votes. We also expect to win two additional individual constituencies once ballots from voters casting their votes away from their place of residence are fully counted. The Hungarian people have granted the Tisza Party a constitutional majority with a clear mandate: to restore the rule of law and return Hungary to its rightful place in Europe, among democratic nations. To everyone who helped us achieve this victory: thank you. From this moment on, we will work to earn your trust every single day.

Yet again, parts of India’s commentariat are forcing Hungary’s results into a made-for-India political lesson. Fun fact: Peter Magyar is himself a centre-right conservative, not the ideological opposite of Orban. This was not right vs left, but fatigue with incumbency, corruption, and governance drift. Maybe read up before force-fitting every global election into domestic political fantasies.
