Imma be devil's advocate here: It isn't overdoomed, its just something unfamiliar, and the same thing happened to Genshin back when it first launched. People simply hate change. AKE is one of the only recent mainstream gachas to bring back the old spark system while combining 50-50s, which goes against what most new gacha players have been experiencing, and I'm about to drop some unc gacha facts here: Since Genshin, new gacha generations have never felt the need to be patient and save up for a banner they want to commit to since they can 'build pity' whenever they feel like. You never pulled on a banner you were't absolutely sure you wanted during the spark system, and before spark system existed it was just pure luck, the flipside being higher SSR rates which still exists in modern JP gachas. When 50-50/pity carries were introduced in Genshin, gacha players were initially not happy since the usual industry SSR rates were usually 3-4% instead of 0.6%, and 50-50s were seen as bad because you couldn't guarantee the rate up until 180 which was also around industry standard for spark. Pity carry forward itself actually changes nothing, its just a psychological hook to get you thinking building pity is beneficial when statistically you will still take the exact same number of pulls. You just need to ration your premium currency income between banners, but we all know self control and gacha/gamblers don't mix. Eventually, players realized Genshin drastically reduced the variance between players with this new 50-50 system; the lowered rates with hard pity + carry foward protected the unlucky players who had to spark for their rate up SSRs, effectively reducing the median pulls needed for the rate up. In AKE, the gacha serves to protects unlucky players from the worst case scenario at 180 vs 120 for a single copy, and yes you can still win your 50-50s just like how you can lose them. Remember, industry professionals with decades of statistical analysis work on gacha odds in this multi billion dollar industry. Give it time, people will understand, and they will look back and see how this gacha system issue will be a nothingburger.
