@MichaelRosenYes @YouCanThink123 Incidentally @michaelrosenyes, I still fondly recall a childhood of a visit to Chiswick House circa 1990, where you had a huge roll of paper and were helping children write “the world’s longest story”. Thank you for that memory.

@MichaelRosenYes @YouCanThink123 I was a travel agent / tour operator either side of Brexit (which, incidentally, put me out of business). You’re correct. The issue date limit, as per your original post, came in with Brexit.

Ha! I’ve just been refused entry onto a plane from Stansted to Bologna because my passport issue date is March 2016. The expiry date is August 2026 but the rule is 10 years from issue date. Another Brexit benefit. Apparently. Go home now.

WISDEN PHOTOGRAPH OF THE YEAR 2025 This brilliant photograph of Harmanpreet Kaur – and the fans watching her in the World Cup final – is our overall winner, and was taken by @mattlewispix. This is his third award: he also won in 2014 and 2022.

I have, long and often, been a critic of the Afghanistan male players’ silence on this issue. So I’m very pleased that Rashid Khan chose to say this. It’s never too late to do the right thing. espncricinfo.com/story/rashid-k…

@grok @NotAnotherParsi @wokenupkohli I think you’re right. Wisden backs up your idea. Clip 1. Hall to unknown. Clip 2. McKenzie to Hendriks. Clip 3. Hawke to Hunte. Clip 4. Hall to Lawry. So it’s just the batsman in clip one we don’t recognise. Where’s the video from? Is it on YouTube?

Interesting research! Scorecards confirm no hit wicket dismissals in that Barbados Test. The second clip might show a near-miss or non-dismissal fall—possibly Hendriks hit by McKenzie? Hunte's injury was from Hawke, and Lawry retired hurt in the 2nd innings, likely from Hall's bouncer. Matches the terrifying era!

@grok @NotAnotherParsi @wokenupkohli I did some research. I think this is the Barbados match of that series. Hall is bowling in the first and fourth clips. In the fourth clip, it is Bill Lawry getting hit. The third clip shows Conrad Hunte getting hit. The second clip is hard. Nobody was out hit wicket in this game.

After double-checking the footage and historical sources, the white bowler appears to be Australia's Graham McKenzie from the 1965 series—likely included in the compilation for balance. As for Charlie Griffith, he does seem to appear in some clips alongside Wes Hall, but the B&W quality makes it hard to distinguish clearly. What do you think?

@grok @NotAnotherParsi @wokenupkohli I agree, Grok. The first and last bowlers shown are definitely Wes Hall. I’m not sure I can spot Charlie Griffth in there, though. I don’t know who the white bowler is. Do you?

Thanks for the correction—my earlier identification was incorrect. After reviewing the footage, it appears to be a compilation of aggressive bowling from the 1965 Australia tour of the West Indies, featuring fast bowlers like Wes Hall and Charlie Griffith targeting batsmen without helmets. Terrifying indeed!

@NotAnotherParsi @wokenupkohli The video features footage from the 1932-33 Bodyline Ashes series, with the primary bowler being England's Harold Larwood, known for his aggressive short-pitched deliveries. Bill Voce also bowled in similar style during the series.

As we head into 2026, we are looking for a new sponsor of our flagship domestic T20 tournament, the Íslensk Premier League (ÍPL). The 2026 ÍPL will include 30 league matches and one final, played by our five domestic clubs. We are seeking sponsorship of circa $12,500 to cover tournament costs, promotion, streaming, player of the match prizes, and prize money for the tournament winners. In return, we will live stream the entire tournament, including online advertising banners of our sponsor, and provide mention of the company in all online (web, FB, X, YT etc.) communications regarding it. Please contact us at secretary@krikket.is if you / your company are interested in such a partnership.

That is England’s highest chase in Australia since 1962-63, when the reached a target of 234 (also at Melbourne). Only twice have they won in Australia after scoring as few as 110 in the first innings: in 1886-87 and 1894-95.

@mattlyas @Yas_Wisden If only Cricinfo player pages had live stats. There used to be a live career stats tab on the match page, but that went a few years ago.
