Hello Kirsty, Thank you for sharing your concerns about pollution of Yorkshires rivers. We truly understand your frustration, and we want to assure you that we are actively working to enhance our performance in this area. There are several factors that can lead to discharges even when it’s not raining, such as blockages in the pipes or overflow issues that disrupt the flow. Additionally, groundwater or surface water may inadvertently enter the network. In cases where heavy rainfall occurs in one area, it can take time for the flows to reach our wastewater treatment works, potentially overwhelming that part of the system. Rest assured, we are committed to addressing these challenges. We have already invested £180 million to reduce the use of storm overflows and are about to launch our largest environmental program yet, with a total investment of £1.5 billion aimed at tackling storm overflows. Best regards, Yorkshire Water Social Team
