She was fine. She has kind of an odd face (yes it's attractive) which works for making her an elf. I always thought of Arwen as being blonde from the books. But that might be because there was a family in our church who named their blonde daughter "Arwen" (This was in the 1970s, so no one knew where the name came from.) But the non-blonde Arwen worked for me.

The first few decades of programming was a vibrant time, filled with people who very much cared about discipline. Hopper, Dijkstra, Hoare, Yourdon, deMarco, Constantine, Bauer, Naur, McIlroy, Perlis, Gallar, Writh, Randell...the list goes on and on.

Senior engineers have to review AI code. Cool. But how do junior and mid-levels become senior without years of writing code by hand?

Amazon is holding a mandatory meeting about AI breaking its systems. The official framing is "part of normal business." The briefing note describes a trend of incidents with "high blast radius" caused by "Gen-AI assisted changes" for which "best practices and safeguards are not yet fully established." Translation to human language: we gave AI to engineers and things keep breaking? The response for now? Junior and mid-level engineers can no longer push AI-assisted code without a senior signing off. AWS spent 13 hours recovering after its own AI coding tool, asked to make some changes, decided instead to delete and recreate the environment (the software equivalent of fixing a leaky tap by knocking down the wall). Amazon called that an "extremely limited event" (the affected tool served customers in mainland China).

@AdamRackis There will be a severe shortage of senior engineers in the future. And I mean real senior engineers who actually know what they are doing.
But those riding the AI hype don't care much about the future. They just want quicker and cheaper results now.

Seriously. “The DB48X project intends to rebuild and improve the user experience of the HP48 family of calculators.” From the developer: “As a consequence of recent legislative activity in California and Colorado.
