Most people spend retirement slowing down. At 88, Inderjit Singh Sidhu spends his mornings cleaning Chandigarh's streets.
Long before most people begin their day, the former IPS officer and retired DIG is out with a broom and a sanitation cart, clearing litter, sweeping roads, and unclogging drains across the city.
For the past decade, he has done it all voluntarily.
When he first started, many mocked him. They struggled to understand why a man who had spent his career in positions of authority would choose to sweep public roads.
But Sidhu never let the criticism stop him.
Born into a military family, he dedicated 35 years to the Punjab Police before retiring in 1996.
Yet for him, service did not end when he hung up his uniform.
It simply found a new purpose.
Today, that quiet commitment has earned him one of India's highest civilian honours, the Padma Shri.

लखनऊ में एक इमारत में लगी भीषण आग में तक़रीबन डेढ़ दर्जन युवाओं की दर्दनाक मौत हो गई। वहाँ मौजूद युवाओं की चीखें और गवाही सुनिए—यह सिर्फ़ एक हादसा नहीं, हमारे समय की एक भयावह सच्चाई है।
इस आग में कुछ लोग जलकर मारे गए, लेकिन उससे भी बड़ा सवाल यह है कि जिन लोगों को युवाओं ने अपनी उम्मीदों और भविष्य की जिम्मेदारी सौंपी थी, उन्होंने उनके लिए क्या किया?
रोज़गार, शिक्षा, सुरक्षा और बेहतर व्यवस्था की जगह समाज को धर्म और नफ़रत की आग में झोंका जा रहा है। एक आग इमारतों को जलाती है, दूसरी आग पीढ़ियों के सपनों को।
हम जैसे लोग बरसों से चेतावनी देते आ रहे हैं कि नफ़रत की राजनीति का अंत कभी अच्छा नहीं होता। मगर अगर अब भी नहीं संभले, अगर अब भी असली मुद्दों पर सवाल नहीं पूछे, तो सिर्फ़ इमारतें नहीं जलेंगी—सपने जलेंगे, भविष्य जलेगा, और एक पूरा समाज राख में बदलता चला जाएगा।
वक़्त अभी भी है। तय करना हमें है कि हम आग बुझाने वालों के साथ खड़े होंगे या आग फैलाने वालों के साथ।

Big breaking: A coaching was being run from the first floor of the building where this massive fire erupted in Aliganj area in Lucknow, UP. A huge hole was drilled in side of the building to extricate people stuck inside. Multiple causalities feared.
