As I said earlier, these have been really tough results today - including in Wakefield. As the PM has said, this is now a time for serious, calm-headed reflection, because following these results, we must listen and respond, but do so in a steady, thoughtful and reflective way.

@DavidLammy Starmer didn't 'win a huge mandate'. It was a protest vote against the Tories that handed him a majority - and he squandered it. The only change we want is a change of government to one that will put British people first.

As these tough election results come in, we thank and pay tribute to our councillors who have served their communities brilliantly for many years. The last thing the British people need now is Labour turning inward and losing focus on them. Keir Starmer won a huge mandate less than two years ago. Now we must get on with delivering change faster for the British people.

@UKLabour Labour was elected because voters were quite understandably furious at the Tories for the Boriswave. The only change we want is to restore our country to the way it was before decades of mass legal and illegal immigration. The Uniparty won't do that. They had their chance.

These are tough results for Labour. There’s no sugarcoating it. We’ve lost brilliant Labour representatives who’ve stood up for their communities. People are still frustrated.
