This disgraceful act took place just days after the murder of a senior politician, the third of my colleagues in a decade. It is a shared responsibility of all of us in our democracy to call out and condemn violence and threats against politicians. I hope the Green Party leadership takes appropriate action this time. #Echobox=1783974412-1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

Today, the Hillsborough Law returns to Parliament.   It is a lasting tribute to the 97, and to the families and survivors whose courage has changed our country. The Hillsborough Law will change the balance of power to ensure public authorities can act with honesty and openness and that no bereaved family is ever again left to walk alone. Their fight for truth will be written into law.

Good to meet with Denis Bećirović and Željko Komšić in London today. The UK's friendship with Bosnia and Herzegovina matters. In an uncertain world, working closely together to uphold peace, security and stability across Europe has never been more important.

While visiting HMP Wandsworth I saw first-hand the challenges they are facing. Violence, drones and organised crime remain major issues across the wider prison estate. Amber Rudd's independent review will help deliver the long-term reforms our prisons need.
Ministry of Justice@MoJGovUK

Too many of our prisons, face deep-rooted challenges: violence, disorder, drugs, drones and organised crime. But progress is being made on the ground. Amber Rudd's independent review will help tackle the root causes and deliver lasting reform.

"I think that history will write up the Keir Starmer period as tremendously strong on foreign relations." Deputy Prime Minister @DavidLammy discussed the legacy of Keir Starmer's premiership at our 2026 London Conference.

The whole country will be utterly shocked by the awful news about the circumstances of Ann Widdecombe’s death. Today we come together across the political divide and I pay tribute to Ann’s dedication during her many years of public service. My thoughts and deepest condolences are with Ann’s family and friends.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of Ann Widdecombe. The circumstances of her death are extremely distressing and my thoughts are with Ann's family and loved ones. Ann's dedication to public service was decades long, and she was a true servant of her constituents. I have spoken to the Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall police today. The Home Office stands ready to provide whatever support they need with their ongoing investigation. I urge everyone to avoid speculation and allow the police investigation to progress.

During the local elections, a Green councillor in Lewisham described myself and the Shadow Home Secretary as “coconuts”. The Green Party looked the other way, kept the candidate in post and even rewarded that candidate with a council job. This sort of racism has no place in our politics or in our society.

Today I announced that the King has acted on advice and granted a conditional pardon to Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged in the UK. A victim of sustained domestic, physical and sexual abuse, Ruth's case was marked by exceptional circumstances. We cannot rewrite history, but today's act of mercy recognises those circumstances and honours her memory. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

I will accept Nigel Farage’s request to be appointed Steward and Bailiff of the Manor of Northstead. It is a farce and a desperate distraction, and the people of Clacton deserve better. But if he wants to spend the summer arguing with a bin, I won't stop him.

I’m proud of what this Labour government has achieved over the past two years. We’re fixing the mess the Tories left after 14 years in government. I’ll take our record over theirs any day of the week.

The shocking sexual and physical abuse of thousands of boys at Medomsley is a national scandal. For too long. working class boys who were victim of the most heinous crimes have been overlooked by those in power - with some notable exceptions. We cannot let that happen again. This government rightly apologised for historic failings, but did not stop there. Today, we have accepted all 34 recommendations of the Trowler review I commissioned to ensure that these horrific crimes will never happen again and @DavidLammy and I will also be meeting with survivors. Never again. @guardian theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/j…

Windrush is personal to me. My parents came from Guyana believing in Britain’s promise. I’m proud of my family’s story & I’m proud that Britain continues to be shaped by the generations who followed. It was a privilege to welcome the Windrush community to Downing Street last week

In Gdańsk, I joined partners from across Europe to reaffirm our unwavering support for Ukraine. Meeting Ukrainian families forced to flee their homes was a powerful reminder of the human cost of Russia's illegal war. Their courage demands action. The UK stands with Ukraine 🇬🇧🇺🇦

We inherited a broken prison system. The country was days away from running out of places, which would mean the collapse of law and order across the country. We are building - 14,000 new prison places, the largest programme since the Victorian era. There will be more criminals behind bars than ever before by the end of the Parliament. But without further sentencing changes, we’d still end up facing the same crisis again next year. We will never do that to the British people. @MoJGovUK

Kemi lost her head at PMQs - and afterwards too. It's not the first time. She's compared me to a Gestapo officer. I wonder what it is about a working class woman driving record investment in state schools by ending private schools' tax breaks that the Tories hate so much.
Bridget Phillipson@bphillipsonMP

The Gestapo marched hundreds of thousands of innocent people to their deaths. I've ended private schools' tax breaks to invest in state schools. No responsible leader makes vile comparisons like this. Kemi Badenoch is not fit to be Prime Minister.
