As a proof of concept, this approach will be applied to Aneurysms-osteoarthritis syndrome (AOS), a rare monogenic disorder caused by mutations in SMAD3. Well done Mike!

By combining genetic engineering to introduce specific mutations in iPSC’s and single-cell RNA expression analysis on differentiated cells, we will get a deeper insight into the disease mechanisms and genotype-phenotype correlation of monogenetic diseases.

Respiratory viruses, such influenza A virus or SARS-CoV-2, can cause neurological complications. Lisa wants to unravel how neurons and bystander CNS cells respond to the exposure of viruses. She will combine sc sequencing with stem cell-derived neural models.
