@RichardHanania Surely you can see the incoherency of this argument you're presenting.

Wait, John Oliver actually ran a segment with the premise that “AI models don’t work well”? Wasn’t this guy telling us to get on our knees and worship scientific experts when they said there were more than two genders? Now when experts are building the most revolutionary technology of all time he stops believing them?
Matt Shumer@mattshumer_

People keep sending me this clip of @iamjohnoliver using my tweet as evidence that AI models don’t work well. Just to clear up any confusion, with respect, the tweet was a) taken way out of context and b) extremely outdated. The model in question (4o) is multiple generations old, and was shut down for being too sycophantic. Current models would not have behaved this way. It’s sort of like looking at a Nokia flip phone and saying “this isn’t useful”, when an iPhone exists. John, I’m a fan, and welcome any discussion here. Just want things to be accurate and not misleading!

@davidpdeavel @SarahLongwell25 Do you have any evidence of foul play or are you Just Asking Questions here? The opinion article from the Hill wasn't very illuminating, and it didn't really engage seriously with the outcomes (only reporting what was useful to their argument). For example, NY lost a House seat.

@adub01488424 Lol, yeah, you're right. My feed is so littered with wacky sincerity that I'm getting worse at detecting the play.

@davidpdeavel @SarahLongwell25 It's not really that strange. There are always census anomalies, and that's why the Census does follow-up comparison in these post-census analyses. The 2020 Census was especially difficult due to the, you know, global pandemic.

Rules like this are fun because there is potential creative value when you break them. Today, speaking "properly" in every context requires doing some things that might have been classified as improper in grade school but are otherwise perfectly cromulent.
Joe Weisenthal@TheStalwart

Reading about linguistics has been really liberating. Ending sentences with prepositions will never again be something I’m concerned with. Turns out it’s totally made up, something arbitrary that only high school English teachers complain about.

Very salient point here, unfortunately. The US left is a lot more libertarian than collectivist, despite the braying of US conservatives.

@StatisticUrban That's cause the "American left" is just anti-establishment types masquerading as progressives

@KnowingBetterYT @StatisticUrban American leftists have zero understanding of how culturally libertarian they are. It's the water they swim in so they don't notice it. Everywhere else is "Don't fucking smoke on the train you cunt" and "Yes, put the mentally ill person in a mental hospital".

@daniel_271828 @ArtemisConsort They actually do fall *slightly* faster if they're properly tied together due to less surface exposure Gravity pulling the bricks down scales with r³ while air resistance scales with surface area, which increases with r²

I’m tired of the Aristotelian physics slander. Yes, heavier object fall faster than light ones, all else equal, *when immersed in a fluid* which is every environment Aristotle had access to. Do the experiment yourself. Drop a bowling ball and a same-sized ball of foam. There’s a great paper called “Aristotle’s Physics: a Physicist’s Look” that demonstrates how Aristotelian physics is a special case approximation of Newtonian physics in the same way Newtonian physics is a special case approximation of relativity and QM. Aristotle’s physics reigned for so long not because people were unthinkingly dogmatic, but because it was genuinely hard to come up with better models. Aristotle had to model celestial objects separately from terrestrial objects because his terrestrial model is describing *terminal* velocity and breaks down in the zero-friction limit. So he had two incompatible models. Newton unified them. Now we have two incompatible models - QM and GR - and are looking for unification. The more things change…

@ArtemisConsort This has nothing to do with "heavier". It's surface area to volume ratios.

The republican pitch to voters in an election year dominated by the crushing costs of living in this country should be the urgent need for a new marble and gold ballroom for members of the American ruling class to have safer banquets
Acyn@Acyn

Graham on Ballroom: If you don't think $400 million of taxpayer money is a good investment to create a secure facility at The White House, then I disagree. I bet you 90% of Americans would love to have a better facility.
