@alicents_lawyer people wanted them to have the friends to bitter enemies arc which is a fine arc to do but it just has never been what the show has done. driftmark was out of character for alicent not who she truly is

HOTD is really not complicated, or even badly written, it's just that most people refuse to accept and engage with it because it's fundamentally about the love between two women

like hotd has been consistent in that rhaenyra and alicent can never truly hate each other not only because they care for each other but bc their friendship is tied to the last time both women’s lives were still their own

this is truly what gets to me like. we see that alicent resented marrying viserys and immediately starting popping off children and later realizing her sacrifice was for nothing. she resented rhaenyra’s perceived freedoms and hypocrisy, that’s what made driftmark so good!

Idk the story has lost so much of Its spice and balance by turning Alicent and Rhaenyra from a fierce rivalry to a Rhaenyra-centric stale friendship that's not really affected by anything happening around them

@fembotic like they obv didn’t go for the evil stepmother narrative, that’s fine, the changes did make the plot deeper! that doesn’t mean they couldn’t make her ambitious and interested in HER survival and instead we get the “blacks = good guys” and alicent 🥺 wants to be a good person 🥺

if anything they should’ve made her fully plant her feet about the usurpation, showing that even if she resented her children at some level she was committing to gaining some level of autonomy this way. instead we get 🥺🥺 rhaenyra i’ve always actually wanted your happiness 🥺🥺

Would love to see the @Royals and @Hallmark go explicitly family-friendly in a revived Crown Center area. Add in some amenities that are really missing in this party of the city, like the kid/family entertainment complexes (Main Event, etc), indoor/outdoor active play, some great car-free spaces for families to walk, relax & enjoy, toddler playground, etc.
Basically, a lot of the amenities that exist in suburban areas but are lacking in the city. Tie that to baseball, make it a better year-round attraction, and make it more distinctly urban in nature.

@DanPizzaGuy @kevinklink I just don’t understand why you would try to bring suburban amenities to a more urban environment, the conceit of “a large purpose-built commercial playplace you drive to” is fundamentally ill-suited to an environment where space is at a premium and has lots of competing demands

@kevinklink outside of amping up existing offerings and maybe adding a formal playground, I don’t see how it could get any more family friendly without turning it into something completely unfunctional

@kevinklink no offense but have you been to crown center? that complex has kaleidoscope, legoland, a giant splash pad in the summer, a huge skating rink in the winter, kids theater at the coterie, fritz’s with the train-based food delivery, access to the street car, etc
