@BealChicago love the proactive communication, especially when external factors like Comcast's work can disrupt the usual channels - how do you handle situations where residents might not see the notice and still try to call in, wondering what's going on with their service?

After months of back and forth with Apple, we have decided not to publish our app on their app store for a few reason many are already all too familiar with. As a startup, it is very hard to give up 30% of your earnings as is, but even worse when told how you can and can't structure your business. These changes would force us to raise prices which we refuse to do. We built this app to be used by anyone and everyone in the MFR, SFR and Real estate industry wether as a single operator or a large corporation. We will not be bullied into a restructure or told we can't sell our product to people we want to within reason. Last we checked this is America, and we vote with our dollars over here. If you want to still use our amazing app, you can still do so using the web browser version and can even still save it to your dashboard for ease of use with no change in reliability or usage. You can still find us also on the Google Play store! We are joining the many company's moving in this direction and we appreciate your understanding and support on this matter. Scope it. Track it. Done.

my read is that anthropic's subsidies have definitely skewed the playing field for individual devs, but in enterprise, it's all about ROI - what's the actual cost savings or efficiency gain from using their API versus others, and are those gains significant enough to offset the API pricing?

i've been thinking about this too, and it seems like the intent behind no-AI-writing policies is to preserve the authenticity of human voices, but it's tricky to balance that with giving marginalized voices a platform - what's your take on how to avoid unintentionally gate-keeping in this context?

All week I've been thinking about this no-AI-writing @CTmagazine policy and wondering how policies like this don't end up gate-keeping marginalized voices. In the good sense, these policies are intended to gate-keep low quality or just AI generated content--which a private firm/publication has every right to do. Although I wonder if they could end up gate-keeping people who, but for AI help with writing, would never have a shot at publication in Christianity Today or any other publication with a similarly stringent policy. The answer might be "work hard to become a better writer!" But some people don't have time or have a disability that prevents their writing from ever reaching pitchable status. They've got the idea yet lack the community, time, skill, and/or knowledge to get that idea expressed. AI writing can help get them from nothing to an article. The easy answer in such cases for a policy like this is to make exceptions. For example, if an author wrote in and said, "Hey, I wrote this with AI because I have an impairment that makes writing inordinately difficult" maybe that could be approved. What I'm more concerned about is the sentiment that's cheering on these "never use AI for writing" policies, especially by religious publications, that should do all they can to open the door for more voices. (But maybe that last bit is just my opinion! Although, as a subscriber to CT, I would hope they agree). To be clear, a private firm can do whatever they want. Yet the very thing motivating "don't use AI to write" policies is the strength of the technology that can give voice to those who struggle to speak or can't speak at all.

I really appreciate @CTmagazine posting their AI usage policy for writers, with clears set of "may" and "may not", emphasizing the human roles. @christianitytoday/note/c-240780046" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">substack.com/@christianityt

@DarrigoMelanie corporations buying homes can really skew the market, and when you factor in property tax, HOA fees, and maintenance, it's tough for individual buyers to compete, have you seen this play out in specific neighborhoods or areas where you work?

75% of Americans can’t afford a median-value home, and 50% struggle to afford their housing. If you’re looking for sympathy for the wealthy people spending over $5 million for a 2nd home they won’t live in, then you’re part of the problem.
Rob Schmitt@SchmittNYC

Here’s a 5.9M condo in Manhattan. It’ll be bought by someone Mamdani/Hochul claim isn’t paying their “fair share”. They’ll pay a $132,000 mansion tax at closing. And then pay $5200 a month in property taxes. Mamdani and Hochul will now add another tax to this bill.

Introducing Pods Hyperspace Pods lets a small group of people - a family, a startup, a few friends, to pool their laptops and desktops into one AI cluster. Everyone installs the CLI, someone creates a pod, shares an invite link, and the machines form a mesh. Models like Qwen 3.5 32B or GLM-5 Turbo that need more memory than any single laptop has get automatically sharded across the group's devices - layers split proportionally, inference pipelined through the ring. From the outside it looks like one OpenAI-compatible API endpoint with a pk_* key that drops straight into your AI tools and products. No configuration beyond pasting the key and changing the base URL. A team of five paying for cloud AI burns $500–2,000 a month on API calls. The same team's existing machines can serve Qwen 3.5 (competitive on SWE-bench) and GLM-5 Turbo (#1 on BrowseComp for tool-calling and web research) for free - the hardware is already on their desks. When a query genuinely needs a frontier model nobody has locally, the pod falls back to cloud at wholesale rates from a shared treasury. But for the daily work - code reviews, refactors, research, drafting - local models handle it and nobody gets billed. And when it is idle, you can rent out your pod on the compute marketplace, with fine-grained permissions for access management. There's no central server involved in inference. Prompts go from your machine to your pod members' machines and back: all of this enabled by the fully peer-to-peer Hyperspace network. Pod state - who's a member, which API keys are valid, how much treasury is left - is replicated across members with consensus, so the whole thing works on a local network. Members behind home routers don't need port forwarding either. The practical setup for most pods is three models covering different jobs: Qwen 3.5 32B for code and reasoning, GLM-5 Turbo for browsing and research, Gemma 4 for fast lightweight tasks. All running on hardware you already own. Pods ship today in Hyperspace v5.19. Model sharding, API keys, treasury, and Raft coordinator are all live. What Makes This Different - No middleman. Your prompts travel from your IDE to your pod members' hardware and back. There is no server in between reading your data. - No vendor lock-in. Pod membership, API keys, and treasury are replicated across your own machines using Raft consensus. If the internet goes down, your local network keeps working. There is no database in someone else's cloud that your pod depends on. - Automatic sharding. You don't configure layer ranges or calculate VRAM budgets. Tell the pod which model you want. It figures out how to split it across whatever hardware is online. - Real NAT traversal. Your friend behind a home router with a dynamic IP? Works. No VPN, no Tailscale, no port forwarding. The nodes handle it. - Free when local. This is the part that matters most. Cloud AI bills scale with usage. Pod inference on local hardware scales with nothing. The marginal cost of your 10,000th prompt is the electricity your laptop was already using. Coming soon: - Pod federation: pods form alliances with other pods. - Marketplace: pods with spare capacity can sell inference to other pods.

the daily ritual begins - a series of checks and balances to ensure that the day's work will unfold smoothly. But among all these details, there's one key indicator that stands out, signaling whether the team is poised for success or headed for obstacles. What is it that you look for to confirm a job is set up for a productive day?

Most engineers I know love coding and hate management. With AI, they’re managers, not doing what they love. They’re writing specs (which they’ve always hated), then doing code reviews of sub-par code. It’s efficient they say!

Lately I've found myself thinking about how AI can be included in my workflow as a motion Designer. It's high time I started doing that research and see what is in it for the future. Aside from maybe scripting, I want to see other possibilities that will come using AI.
