Doku clearly gone on to be quite key for City - he did ask for FH punts! - likely 2 x 75 mins but still some chance of bench in Burnley game - its a punt for a reason but seems fine for 1 dgw if the goal is to be different.

@CinePlonks @letterboxd Does it feel like an in-between movie to you? Not as slow as the 70s, but not as fast and tight and action packed as the 00s onwards…? I watched it not so long ago and found it so good still, I don’t think I agree it’s less than the sum of of its parts, but can see the argument

@fplcauthon This year titles/directors seem so far away from the Hollywood/anglo mould of storytelling of accessibility i am unsure many will be as successful as these recent years (in cinemas)

@soucekyoself Yeah sorry, your comment of no Americans struck me with his name in your doc so I looked him up, but haven’t seen any of his movies to my recollection. What I’ve heard maybe doesn’t strike me as typically American I suppose

@ToastFpl @cjtudor My mileage varies a bit with him, but yeah he seemed a perfect for the role. And maybe he is once I see it again, for now I feel like the overall effect of glib character and glib actor is a bit too much of the good stuff. Interested to hear what you think when you do see it

Project Hail Mary. Should I read the book before seeing the film? Never got round to reading it when it first came out.

@ToastFpl @cjtudor Kind of inevitable I think when you love a book/story. It’s worth seeing, but yeah definitely temper expectations. The film making really good though

@ToastFpl @cjtudor Did you see it yet Toast? I’ve been through audiobook 3 or 4 times, and quite enjoyed the movie, though something is lost at the heart of it but the book is obviously always going to be better

@cjtudor The audiobook is brilliant, really clever how that did the language of the alien

Four bangers and a dud

Ok having finished the 10 Oscar movies at last, this is where I’m at. Nothing really controversial I think, but lower on Sentimental Value, Secret Agent and Marty than many. A great year, though No Other Choice and Sorry, Baby would easily make my top 5 were I the one choosing
