You guys read a stupid youtube comment and just ran with it. Building a gap does matter and it is useful because you never know what might happen. A minor technical issue, a late safety car where you may want to have a gap to pit without losing track position.

You will never see George winning by more than 5 seconds, not because he lacks the pace, but because it doesn't matter if you win by 20 seconds or 5 as long as you do. He usually manages his pace so this happens. I think he got that from Niki Lauda
