The easiest way to fix the 48-team World Cup format:
Group winners go straight to the Round of 16.
Second-placed teams play third-placed teams in a playoff round for the remaining spots.
That way, winning your group actually means something, and the format still keeps the drama.
It really isn’t that complicated.

Hoy es uno de los peores días de mi vida. Vuelvo a lesionarme después de un año muy complicado, en el que la pubalgia me ganó muchas batallas, pero no la guerra. Conseguí superarla con trabajo, sacrificio y, sobre todo, responsabilidad. Fue un año y medio de sufrimiento, tristeza, incertidumbre y ansiedad. No sabía cuándo volvería a jugar sin dolor ni cuándo recuperaría una vida normal. Llegué a convivir con el dolor en cosas tan simples como ir al baño, subir y bajar del coche o simplemente disfrutar del día a día. Volver a ser feliz jugando al fútbol era mi mayor prioridad, junto a recuperar la sonrisa. Porque sin una sonrisa, sin disfrutar y sin ser feliz, no puedo rendir al máximo nivel. Lo superé. Después apareció una lesión en el isquio, que volvió a ponerme a prueba. Una vez más dejé de sonreír, pero tampoco iba a detenerme. Ayer me provocaron una nueva lesión tras una acción en la que un compañero de profesión actuó llevado por la frustración, el descontento y la tristeza por la situación que atravesaba. Fue una jugada que, en mi opinión, se podía haber evitado porque era completamente innecesaria. Pero esto tampoco me va a detener. Sé que Dios tiene un plan para mí y seguiré luchando hasta el último instante para volver a hacer lo que más amo: jugar al fútbol, ser feliz y dar muchas alegrías. Gracias de corazón a todos por vuestros mensajes de apoyo. La historia no ha acabado nos vemos en los antes posible en este mundial

@HussainShafiei There have to be 2 between the last atacker and the goal. He’s (very) slightly ahead of the 2nd defender (top of his foot) therefore he’s offside.

@BlackLabelAdvsr Literally who cares lol you can say whatever you want but the fact of the matter will remain as the NFL only being liked/followed/gathering interest IN America, while the rest of the world will continue to watch football.

Soccer will never be popular in America.
What we’re seeing with the World Cup is a fad. Within months we will be addicted to the NFL again.
Here’s why:
- Soccer isn’t violent enough.
- There’s way too much whining which goes against the American DNA.
- The refs and rules seem incredibly arbitrary.
- It’s in American to have a sports game end in a draw. It’s just wrong.
- Hard to monetize. TV ads are nonexistent. I actually like this element but our American economy does not.
- Did I mention there’s too much whining and faked injuries?
Basically, what I’m saying is that soccer is a pretty wimpy sport. You can hate me for saying this but you know it’s the truth.
I will continue enjoying the World Cup but we all know what happens next.
Back to normal life!

@PistL_Pete Sort of -maybe- agree with the first point. On the offside, absolutely not. The field is too big, attackers could just camp at each end and the game would turn into who can do the most long crosses. No offsides only works on small courts, like NBA.

The World Cup is awesome and soccer is a great sport but I have two gripes… the clock should stop on stoppages like every other sport. Extra time is unnecessary and offsides should only exist on set pieces. Attacking teams shouldn’t be penalized for getting behind the defense

This is my neighbours, they only had this fitted in March, I would love air-con in my flat but this looks hideous on the outside of the building.

@RevolverBets En general de acuerdo, pero viendo lo que le ha pasado a Inglaterra, Brasil y España en este mundial, o por ejemplo que España ha ganado 4 juegos EN TOTAL desde 2010 en mundiales, creo que sí es muy meritorio ganar el grupo sin recibir gol. Al final los partidos hay que jugarlos

I'm so tired of lateness being viewed as a moral failing. I've been shamed for it my whole life because it's framed as "disrespect" (and no, it hasn't helped me be more punctual) and if I lost out on a major life opportunity because of it I don't think I could have ever recovered

Esto está guay hasta que te das cuenta de que Messi le ganó una Final de Champions marcando un gol en la Final a "Mr. UCL" y luego le ganó una Final de Mundial haciendo doblete a "Mr. World Cup".
Pero claro, realmente Messi ha sido el mejor con una diferencia considerable sobre su perseguidor.
