@richchetwynd It's been a somewhat cursed year -- seems like more players saving their energy for the AO and using Auckland as a casual warm-up. A few of the top women withdrew early. Women's finals ended early with Naomi Osaka injury after 1 set. Men's doubles finals cancelled last minute.

The Leader of the Free World must stand unequivocally with free nations defending themselves: Ukraine against the Russian invaders, Israel against Iran’s Hezbollah and Hamas. Soleimani and Nasrallah deserved their demise. Putin deserves our repudiation.

Covid strengthened pre-existing connections between these groups, accelerated the growth of their audience, and seems to have entrenched these beliefs within right wing political identity. This coalition will begin to fight childhood vaccine requirements for school very soon.

It might be advertising itself as a rally against mandates, but this will be a mix of anti-vaccine conspiracy theories, stolen election tropes, cancel culture whining, anti-globalism, QAnon, general anti-Biden hysteria, and outright grift.

We researched some of the biggest Facebook groups promoting the Canadian trucker protest before they were shut down yesterday, and noticed something was a bit off. The only individual admin running some of the most active groups was one woman in Missouri. Or so it seemed.🧵⤵️

#tbt 20 years ago today, I moved to New Zealand for the first time. It was an exciting adventure! Back then flight NZ17 was a 767-300 that made a fuel stop in Tahiti, and sometimes a second stop in Rarotonga.

Great paper out of 🇳🇿 shows that controlling property for socio-economic status (SES) is the key. When controlling for SES using proxies, alcohol still seems to have a positive benefit, but using actual SES reveals no benefits:
