@chrisfurounah i don't agree lol. it takes more than 1 person to stop femphobia and homophobia. while he could have told the child that's how he is, it wouldn't really change a thing since that child now has prejudice against effeminate folks. sha i do agree with some parts of what you said tho

Saying you were shocked because a regular Nigerian child asked you ‘why are you walking like a girl’ is so out of touch. That’s a child, next time use that 5 minutes of your time and explain to him that sometimes a boy can be feminine and as well a girl can be masculine, and it’s okay!! Kids are more open to new knowledge and learning. Don’t push em away with an attitude, so next time they see a femboy or a mascgirl maybe in their school or anywhere, they don’t act shocked and repeat the same stupid question!! This is exactly what is wrong with the previous generation, a lot of them can’t still grasp the fact that sexuality can’t always be black & white, that it can be other colours too. It was because they lacked Education from a young age and grew believing life was just black & white, hence the number of homophobes in that generation. And that’s why the west is more accepting not because they are better humans or smarter, but because they’ve been educated and exposed from a young age and educate their young ones starting from the home down to the school about the complexities of human nature.
TENIOLA@Teeniiola

A young man shared his experience after visiting the bank with his mum, where a child unexpectedly asked him why he was “walking like a girl.” He said he was left sh0cked by the comment and looked at his mum for a reaction, but she acted as though she didn’t hear it. According to him, he was completely speechless, expressing surprise at how such a young child could make that kind of remark.

I think one of the major causes of homophobia in Nigeria is the lack of exposure to the reality of queer lives around hetero folks. From my own small corner, my little contribution to the society is to always post educative and informative queer content on my WhatsApp and everywhere, and make sure my hetero friends and family keep seeing them and whether they like it or not, they get used to this reality and stop thinking it’s something that hardly exist. The effects of representation is so underrated and we can positively influence it from our small corners of the world and change the narratives.
