Every year, more than 190 million animals suffer in laboratories around the world. Dogs, rats, fish and many others endure painful tests for research and testing. But science has moved forward. Modern, non-animal methods are proven to be more effective and humane. Together, we can replace outdated experiments and build a future where no animal has to suffer for science. #HumaneWorld #EndAnimalCruelty #ScienceWithoutSuffering

While in the European Union thousands of citizens are making their voices heard, with the recent submission of signatures calling for a fur-free Europe and a response to the #FurFreeEurope European Citizens’ Initiative, shocking new evidence shows that animals are still suffering for fur just beyond its borders. A first-ever undercover investigation in Iceland has revealed the grim reality behind the fur trade: mink with open wounds and infections, dead animals left in cages, and thousands confined in small, filthy wire enclosures. Although the three farms exposed in the investigation have since closed, reports suggest that conditions for animals at Iceland’s last remaining operating fur farm could be just as bad: animals with wounds, injuries, disease and signs of cannibalism. Across Europe, 24 Member States have already initiated actions to restrict fur farming. The momentum is clear. The science is clear. Public opinion is clear. Animals should not suffer for fashion. It’s time for Iceland to join them, and for the EU to turn citizens’ calls for a fur-free Europe into law. Discover more 🔗 humaneworld.org/en/news/icelan… #HumaneWorld

Momentum is growing across Europe. Just days after we delivered 80,000 additional signatures to the European Commission, the message remains unmistakable: fur farming has no place in modern Europe. With more than 1.5 million citizens already supporting the Fur Free Europe initiative, the demand for change has never been clearer. The EU has now the chance to take a historic step forward, and finally leave fur farming behind. #EndFurFarming #AnimalWelfare

The true cost of fur goes far beyond what’s on the price tag. Fur production in the EU carries an estimated €226 million in environmental damage every year, driven by pollution, heavy resource use, local environmental impacts and the risks linked to escapes of non-native species. Fur farms also pose a serious public health risk, with prevention measures estimated at up to €211 million annually. When these environmental and public health costs are taken into account, the industry’s impact on the economy becomes clear: fur farming is harmful for animals, risky for people and costly for our planet. It’s time to end fur farming in the EU! #HumaneWorld #EndAnimalCruelty #FurFreeEurope #FurFreeFuture #FurFree

We have just delivered signatures of 80,000 more recent signatories to the European Commission adding to over 1.5 million EU citizens that have already spoken. Message from Europeans is clear: fur farming is outdated, unethical, and must end. With a decision on the horizon, the EU has a historic chance to finally make fur farming history. Anything less would be unforgivable. #HumaneWorld #EndAnimalCruelty #FurFreeEurope #FurFreeFuture #FurFree

A major step for wildlife protection in South America. Lawmakers from across the Mercosur region have adopted a declaration promoting the region as a zone free of hunting trophies. The move reflects growing momentum to end trophy hunting and the international trade that drives it. The decision follows Humane World for Animals’ work in Argentina - together with Pumakawa and the Wildlife Observatory - to advance bans on trophy hunting and its trade. As progress grows globally, the European Union also has a crucial role to play in ending its contribution to the trophy hunting trade. 👉 Join us in calling for an EU ban on the import of hunting trophies. It’s not only an ethical issue: the fur industry in Europe is not sustainable from an economic perspective either. Last month, during the event “The Economic Unsustainability of the European Fur Industry”, we met in Rome with experts and Members of the European Parliament to discuss the findings of the report by economist Griffin Carpenter, which reveals the real cost of this sector: pollution, public health risks, and a negative economic impact on the European Union. 👉🏻 youtu.be/8ya4mc4InsU Meanwhile, more than 1.5 million European citizens have already said enough by signing the European Citizens’ Initiative “Fur Free Europe” petition. Now the decision lies with the European Commission. 📢 Let’s make our voices heard even louder: sign the letter to the European Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare to call for a definitive end to fur in Europe 👉🏻 humaneworld.org/stopfur We thank Members of the European Parliament Cristina Guarda, Carolina Morace and Brando Benifei, as well as Rome City Councillor Daniele Diaco, for joining us and for their continued commitment to this cause. #HumaneWorld #EndAnimalCruelty #FurFreeEurope

Behind every fur coat, there is a story the industry doesn’t want you to see. Our new Reality Projected campaign reveals the hidden cruelty of fur farming by projecting real images from fur farms onto fur garments worn by models, exposing the suffering behind the glossy image of the fur trade. While fur farming is already banned in 24 European countries, more than 6 million animals are still kept on almost 1,200 fur farms across the EU. "The European Union has the opportunity to position itself on the right side of history for animal welfare by proposing an EU-wide ban on the cruel and outdated practice of fur farming." - Dr Joanna Swabe, senior director of public affairs at Humane World for Animals Europe.
