#CovidIsAirborne, & almost 60% of transmission is from the symptomless infected people all around you. That’s why we need masks AT LEAST in healthcare!

As a Covid informed person, I mask around others indoors. I'm not especially at risk. I'm not immunocompromised. I'm masking because I am informed and getting Covid is very, very bad for your health. The end. Get fucked if you have any problem with this.

@ibrake4ants @DannyTheZebra IDK. I usually pay out of pocket, to stay under the radar. Kaiser is once yearly, to the best of my understanding. Supposedly, there is nothing wrong healthwise with my family, and doctors dont believe we need/needed frequent vaccines.

My teenager is sick. It's been almost a year since he's been refusing covid vax. He is refusing testing, but my antibodies are hopefully still high enough to avoid infxn- if it is covid. He has a bad sore throat. Portland OR metro.🙏

@LongDesertTrain So was this phenomenon of disproportionate infection in children noted when XBB was circulating? I don’t remember hearing about it!

This is in fact the same pattern that was seen when you compare XBB with ORF7/8 to XBB ∆ORF78 in the US in 2023-24. Minnesota has the best data, so I've used them here, but the overall picture is the same: ∆ORF78 variants preferentially infect kids, primarily ages 2-17. 2/4

Quick elaboration on this. The disproportionate rate at which BA.3.2 infects children is not driven by infants. The 0-1 age group is less overrepresented (by a large margin) than the 2-5 and 6-17 age groups in the countries we have data for. 1/
Ryan Hisner tweet media
Ryan Hisner@LongDesertTrain

So it's clear that BA.3.2 preferentially infects children, something we have never seen before in a SARS-CoV-2 variant. Why? The question's baffled me, but after a suggestion from Darren Martin, I think I have an explanation that makes sense. 1/16

I hate to be an alarmist, but we could use one aspect of this variant to wake parents the EFF up. What is it you ask? A definite propensity towards infecting children. Yes, you read that right. Not totally unique, but this is happening on a large scale. x.com/LongDesertTrai…

i find it mad whats happened with dr claire taylor, I dont know her personally or have not been treated by her, but she seemed like she was one of a very small minority, trying to help us all, now its one less doctor to help anyone.

@SystemsVirology It's interesting in this respect that BA.3.2 seems to be more stable at higher temperatures than previous variants. Could at least potentially indicate a renewed ability to infect the lower-respiratory tract. biorxiv.org/content/10.648…

@DannyTheZebra Neither he, nor I are considered "high risk". We are perfectly healthy except for catching covid very easily , and also getting very sick with it. My other two kids, are the same way. I started getting lots of covid vax out of desperation and it has worked

Concerned about the Covid variant headlines? One of the early warning signs of a wave is when you see 2 out of 3 states w/increasing transmission, even small increases. It's one of several features added to the PMC 3.0 forecasting model to time the rise/fall of summer waves.

The magical “aerosol” vanishing trick is now complete 🪄 Bang smack in the middle of the Meningitis outbreak in England, the WHO decided that was the perfect time to take their Meningitis page offline for 4 days… …and now it’s back, the word “aerosol” has magically vanished!

Aaarrrghh! The cover-up begins… The WHO page about Meningococcal Meningitis & its modes of transmission (including the word ‘AEROSOL’) has just been removed from their website. Original link: who.int/teams/health-p… Thankfully there’s an archived page: web.archive.org/web/2026012701…

@kidneycareuk: Nurse of 44 years, and co-leader of an infectious disease study group with actual scientists. Your astounding recommendation to not use masks is frankly at the level of criminal negligence. Meningitis is an airborne pathogen. N95 masks save lives. Fix it, NOW.

@Krafla_c @SolidEvidence Here’s what’s going around in Chicago (not sure where she gets these numbers, but she always mentions her clinic stats first & then Chicago’s). I think covid is generally down right now in a lot of the country, but as you know it will be going up again before too long.

@SolidEvidence Are you saying it's more likely than covid? If so, how do you know the prevalence of HKU1 and 229E? The only way to know if it's probably one of those and not covid is to somehow determine the current prevalence of all three.

If you had a nasty cold recently, it's probably HKU1 or 229E (two of the other human coronaviruses). Both have been surging in wastewater all over the place. Pretty sure that's what I had.

@jessica_pomps @Nnwwzz124 Yeah this has been a thing for awhile—every single covid post on TikTok has at least one person asking why they even tested. I think it’s all part of a deep resentment of being reminded that covid is still something they should be taking seriously

Holy fuck. My friend is ANGRY that I tested. NOT angry because I tested positive, but that I tested at all. She also confused the RAT with a pregnancy test. ??? "Put it out of your head." ??!! "People get Covid, don't let this change anything." ??!! WHAT IN THE ACTUAL F*CK.

COVlD research is close to blacklisted at this point. We've had grant applications triaged (hundreds of hours of work flushed down the toilet), and others get just absolutely ludicrous reviews because you have to convince unmasked Covid-uninformed people to take Covid research seriously. NIH has Covid on their "banned word" list. A lot of people have 2019 pre-pandemic projects now coming to an end (self included). Others are gaining non-Covid research funding to keep staff from being laid off, often with the hope of adding a Covid component to the work, or getting additional funding to add on to it substantially or run separate Covid studies. Anyway, I am aggravated by the situation too, but know a lot of researchers would like to be doing more research-wise than they are able to. It's the funders / general societal views blocking everything. Just sharing my perspective. Can't speak for others. Open to feedback.

@M8Void Twice a year. It used to be every 2 months. You self-certify with one of the many qualifying conditions as immunocompromised. There are supposed to be no hurdles but in case there are bring a printout of the cdc page with you in case of pushback.

Dear CC community. I am in California and have received probably around 8 total doses of the covid vaccines. As an immunocompromised person who was given Novavax in October 2025, when am I eligible for my next dose? The guidance seems to be all over the place.
