Once you have walked an unhoused person who wants housing through the "services" available, you will never stop shaking with fury every time you hear politicians try to blame them for not being housed and calling them "service resistant".

A family friend died very unexpectedly a few months ago. We just found out why today: fentanyl OD. But here's the kicker: their doctor wouldn't prescribe them anti-anxiety meds so they started getting them off the streets and unfortunately got a contaminated batch.

This is a critique of the focus on resilience as a desirable outcome for researchers in our fields. We urge scholars and practitioners to think critically about resilience, considering it as an indicator of harm. Link to article: journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11… Eager for feedback! 2/2

Researchers gave homeless people $750 per month for a year, no questions asked. The recipients spent the money on food, housing, transportation, clothing, and health care. And after six months, only 12% of those who received funds were still homeless. latimes.com/california/sto…

Awesome study!!! Way past time to change our perspective and language used. It’s health/relief seeking (not pathological) and we are creating it as a society through our horrible drug policy.

I find it so disturbing that applicants are concerned about not having publications when applying to graduate school and that some schools weigh this criteria heavily. This inadvertently penalizes talented scientists from circumstances that don’t align with publishing.

That’s because, in that moment, a cascade of stress hormones automatically rushed through my body. Well guess what. The body is not designed to be exposed to these “flight or fights hormones over a long term. Chronic exposure to psychological stress—like the kind that comes from being Black in America—-promotes the formation of artery-clogging deposits (increasing our risk of heart attacks and strokes). It causes insulin resistance, which contributes to diabetes, dementia and obesity. It causes brain changes that can contribute to anxiety, depression, and fuel addiction. Intent doesn’t matter.

@SNeurotypicals I have issues with fruit in general but luckily my partner eats everything and is happy to take my discards (after I touch each piece first of course to test for anti-ripeness which is what I prefer)
