Tim Sweeney's disingenuousness never ceases to shock me. This man talks of competition while him and Epic Games are actively committing anti-competition and anti-consumer practices. Singling out Steam for the 30% cut, something Xbox, Nintendo and PlayStation do as well, it asinine... "bully developers" give me a break.
Tim Sweeney@TimSweeneyEpic

Is this the "fair competition" praised by recent articles? If a store with dominant market share taking a 30% cut can bully developers into not passing on savings to customers on competing stores with lower fees, then competition doesn't stand a chance.

@IExistHerere @chara_betty lol no they don’t make RAM. They buy them like everyone else. You don’t have to make things up just to hide Valve’s incompetence.

@chara_betty Sony and Microsoft MAKE RAM right? Valve has to purchase their's. I could care less about valve, I play an Xbox, but you're points just don't have any weight behind them

@AIwayslame @Jonathan_Blow Do you thing Valve has no layoffs or firings? They’ve had multiple cycles over the years and it’s always crazy and stressful for their employees. Maybe learn more before coming to the defense of the multibillion dollar company of your choice.

Epic has about 30x the number of employees as Valve, so they pay over 10x more in salaries to workers than Valve, which I thought was supposed to be a good thing. If they paid more than they could afford for a time and had to cut back, is that a surprise? Isn't it better for companies to err on the side of paying too much in salaries, and have to fix those mistakes, than to err on the side of paying less in salaries, thus not employing as many people as they could/"should" have? When companies do things that you claim are good, but then you punish them for the inevitable roadblocks involved in that, well, this is deeply inconsistent! x.com/Kotaku/status/…

@ReflectiveRuby2 @KirPinkFury First, Deck has been out of stock for months. They didn’t keep the price as it was, they just stopped selling it. Second, contracts expire and get renegotiated. No one is paying the same old price now, even Apple. Third, maybe Valve the poor indie company should have contracts.

@kaznius @KirPinkFury Here is the thing. They are not PC fanboys. They are purely Steam fanboys. They love talking about openness PC, but refuse to support any store that isn’t called Steam. The Sony want an open PC, they want a Steam console.

@KirPinkFury PC fanboys have been awfully quiet. Where’s that energy? You would think they would be 6x more upset with Valve the way they are with Nintendo.

@sethecityablaze @TheSystem_0 @Felspawned @KirPinkFury No it’s not a known fact. Nintendo raised the price for the same reasons as Valve. The fact you’re still arguing only proves OP point lol. If we’re just gonna make things up, I’ll say Valve was pushed by shareholders (Gabe) to increase the price so he can buy another yacht

@TheSystem_0 @sethecityablaze @Felspawned @KirPinkFury It’s actually funny how they retconned this into Valve being the good guy for offering refunds, when the first store to do saw was EA lol. They’ve also bought developers only to kill the games they’re working on “Firewatch 2”, banned and censored visual novels and more.

@sethecityablaze @Felspawned @KirPinkFury A big example is when valve got sued by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission who was refusing to issue refunds to costumers and after the ACCC won the case Valve was forced to implement refund policies and they also got a 3 million AUD fine

Everyone’s being too harsh here. There has been a significant rise in the cost of components that Steam customer spending ultimately funds, and economic trends have created severe disruptions in the component parts supply chain for megayachts.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney is getting backlash after attacking Gabe Newell following the Steam Deck OLED price hike and saying he needs the money to buy more superyachts. Valve says the increases are due to rising RAM and SSD component costs, but Sweeney wasn’t buying it. “Valve needs the extra revenue to continue maintaining its megayachts.”

@ItmeBoe At this point I don’t think they’re PC fans. Over the years Valve successfully made PC gamer Steam fans. They defend Valve no matter what they do, and they hate on any competitors that dares to try. They don’t want an open PC ecosystem. They just want a Steam console.
